Shawn M. Dethlefsen Harak is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Bethlehem office and has over 20 years’ experience as a Pennsylvania workers’ compensation lawyer. She began her legal practice defending insurance companies, successfully trying both jury and non-jury trials, but soon realized that her heart was drawn to helping those who had been hurt at work, and not the insurers fighting them.. She listens to clients, doesn’t rush them, and patiently guides them through the legal process. A wife and mother of three, Shawn understands that her clients have families and real concerns that impact their lives. It’s not unusual for clients to comment that they consider her to be part of their family.. As a passionate workers’ comp lawyer, Shawn has lectured about workers’ compensation law to employers, insurance carriers, and third party administrators and written materials for numerous seminars.. Born and raised in New Jersey, Shawn attended Widener University where she majored in Business Administration and Human Resources, and she graduated from Widener University School of Law in 1991. Shawn recently served as an Assistant Solicitor for Northampton County and for the City of Allentown. Firm: Pond Lehocky Giordano, LLP
2005 Market Street. , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania 19103
Practice Areas: Workers Compensation
Sam Pond's commitment to advocating for the injured and disabled, particularly hard-working union members, is rooted in a profound personal and professional journey. Raised in the blue-collar neighborhoods of Northeast Philadelphia, Sam's father, a union machinist at the Philadelphia Gas Works, instilled in him an early understanding of the challenges faced by laborers.. Sam's own experience as a union laborer during his late teenage years, enduring grueling 90-hour workweeks while laying pipelines across Pennsylvania, shaped his dedication to those whose livelihoods sustain their families. This early exposure to the hardships of labor laid the foundation for his lifelong advocacy.. Before embarking on his legal career, Sam worked in demanding roles at iconic Philadelphia establishments, such as The Philadelphia Inquirer (where he worked for a local mailer's union), Christian Schmidt Brewing Co. (affectionately known as "Schmidt’s"), and Tastykake. These on-your-feet-all-day jobs not only solidified his work ethic but also exposed him to the challenges faced by workers in various industries.. This diverse set of experiences—working in physically demanding jobs, witnessing the struggles of union members, and understanding the intricate dynamics of different workplaces—shaped Sam's perspective on workers' rights and fueled his passion for justice.. This multifaceted journey ultimately led Sam Pond to become a founding partner and the managing partner of one of the nation's largest workers' compensation and disability law firms. His unique background, coupled with a deep-seated empathy for the vulnerable, has defined his approach to legal advocacy. Sam's unwavering commitment to those injured while putting food on their families' tables remains a driving force in his pursuit of a fair and just society.. In summary, Sam Pond's advocacy is not merely a professional calling but a personal mission deeply rooted in a lifetime of experiences, reflecting his dedication to the well-being of workers and the pursuit of justice for the injured and disabled.

Ronald J. Fonner is a partner at the firm and concentrates his practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, exclusively representing injured workers, and corporate business law.. Mr. Fonner is a member of the Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. Mr. Fonner is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He serves as province president for Phi Delta Phi in Western and Central Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Phi Delta Phi is an international legal fraternity that promotes professional ethics in the field of law. Mr. Fonner is a member of the Ned J. Nakles American Inn of Court.. Mr. Fonner is admitted to practice law in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, as well as the Federal District Courts for the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Michigan.. Within one year of admission to the Pennsylvania Bar, Mr. Fonner prepared the brief, argued and won the Pennsylvania Supreme Court case of Lumax Industries v. Aultman. The case involved corporate issues and "piercing the corporate veil". The plaintiff had entered into a business agreement with a corporation of which Mr. Fonner’s client was the sole shareholder. Although the agreement was with the corporation, the plaintiff attempted to hold our client personally liable for debts of the corporation. The lower courts held that the plaintiff could hold our client liable for the debts of corporation. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed the decision, holding that our client was entitled to immunity from liability since the agreement was with the corporation, and the client was merely a shareholder of the corporation. Mr. Fonner convinced the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to reverse the lower courts’ decisions involving shareholder liability of a corporation’s debts.. Mr. Fonner received his B.A., in economics, magna cum laude, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1989 and his J.D. from Duquesne University in 1994, where he was a contributor to the Duquesne Law Review. Born in Greensburg, Mr. Fonner currently resides in Penn Township.

Having practiced law for nearly 35 years, I left "high volume" law practice in 2013 as a "name" partner at a South Jersey/Philadelphia law firm and started my own practice. As a solo practitioner, my focus remains on disability cases (Social Security and Workers' Compensation). I take pride in providing the attention to detail required in these practice areas and being "hands-on" with every case and client. When you call my office you will speak to me personally (not to a paralegal or other staff person). I am available to answer your questions about the several Social Security programs including disability insurance benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for adults and children. I have handled hundreds of appeals to the "Appeals Council" and the federal courts.
