I devote my practice entirely to family law, with a focus on complex parenting cases. These types of cases are my focus because I enjoy helping parents get through the difficult and stressful process of a divorce or custody proceeding feeling informed and empowered. I believe that my role as an attorney is not only to help the client understand the law and how it will impact their life, but also to provide a sense of security, predictability, and even comfort throughout their case. In addition to complex parenting cases, I handle all types of family law cases from the straightforward to the complex. I am currently serving as the mentor for the King County Bar Association Family Law Mentor program. I provide training, support, and advice to a group of attorneys who are new to family law, and who have volunteered to provide direct representation to low-income persons involved in a family law matter where a child is at risk. Many of these clients are victims of domestic violence. I am committed to being a resource not only to my clients, but to the community at large, particularly in the areas of domestic violence advocacy and the welfare of children.

David Braswell
Firm: Bolan Law Group, PS
4717 S. 19th Street , Tacoma , Washington 98405
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
There is nothing more important than family. That is why David Braswell has dedicated his career to the practice of family law. He has successfully argued hundreds of family law cases before the court, and he is respected by his colleagues and the bench for his effective courtroom advocacy.. David Braswell is uniquely qualified to represent clients in complex child custody cases. He spent seven years representing the best interests of children as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL). David was frequently appointed by judges and court commissioners to interview children, parents, and professionals, and to conduct investigations into allegations of parental misconduct. He served as a Guardian ad Litem in over 100 cases.. Generally, GALs are only appointed in complex, high-conflict child custody cases. As a GAL, David was involved in some of the most difficult custody cases, such as those involving allegations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, mental health disorders, and substance abuse. David has worked closely with CPS investigators and social workers, and he has developed strong professional relationships with many leading psychologists, counselors, and domestic violence and substance abuse evaluators and treatment providers. As an attorney, he is able to leverage the knowledge, experience, and connections he developed as a GAL to the benefit of his clients.. David is confident and comfortable in court, and he has an impressive record of courtroom success. However, David recognizes that often the best results are achieved through agreement and reasonable compromise.. David graduated with high honors from Seattle University School of Law in 2009. While in law school, he received awards for earning the highest grade in his class in contracts and in legal writing. He earned academic achievement scholarships, and he was selected for a full-time externship with the Honorable Robert J. Bryan, Senior Judge at the U.S. District Court for Western Washington at Tacoma.
Daniel Cook
Firm: Alliance Law Group PS
5316 Orchard Street W , University Place , Washington 98467
Practice Areas: Divorce & Separation
A mentor once told me that when you start law school, you do not realize that many of the clients you will serve are coming to see you at the lowest point in their lives. That has proven to be sage advice. I have served clients who are charged with a crime, who have just experienced the loss of a loved one, and who are going through a divorce or separation. I have had the opportunity to help clients through happier times as well, such as adoptions, and sometimes my work involves trying to avoid problems in the future, such as estate planning. But overall, I understand that most often clients are coming to see me in times of crisis. A figurative “earthquake” has happened in their lives, and I strive to guide my clients through the recovery process by serving as a zealous and objective legal advocate and counselor.. Family Law is a passion for me. I started my career at a law firm which exclusively handled domestic relations work. Since then, I have moved to a general practice law firm which has been established in Pierce County for more than 60 years. This gives me the opportunity to work with other cases outside of Family Law, but I still devote approximately 80% of my practice to domestic relations cases. I love the interaction with people that Family Law brings and the challenge of problem solving it entails. Serving as a Pro Tem Commissioner in the Pierce County Superior Court for four or five days, and sometimes more, each year during the last four years has broadened my perspective and helps me give my clients seasoned advice since I have seen many cases from the "other side" of the bench. This helps provide advice on probable outcomes should they go to court.. While virtually all cases involve some sort of court appearance by the attorney, most Family Law cases settle without a full contested trial. I work very hard with clients and opposing counsel or parties to resolve their cases short of trial. The clients often benefit by keeping their fees lower and controlling the outcome of their case. I strive to make sure my client is fully educated about their options and there are those cases which cannot settle and strategic advocacy is required all the way through trial. I enjoy being in the courtroom and am happy to roll up my sleeves and provide you with a spirited representation at trial and even on appeal if necessary. I have tried many cases over the years at the Superior Court level, and have handled several cases in the Court of Appeals. I have successfully defended positive and overturned negative outcomes from trial on Appeal.. It is also a pleasure to handle certain cases outside of the Family Law context. I feel it to be a great compliment when clients I have helped in a domestic case return and ask me to assist them in another area of law, providing services which could range from, among other things, preparing a will, defending them in a civil suit, or drawing up real estate agreements.. I appreciate the opportunity to serve clients with a wide range of legal needs, and I value the trust they place in my counsel and representation. I look forward to continuing to provide compassionate and vigorous advocacy for many years to come.

Cheryl’s military career began in the signal corps with the 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, Tx. Her enlistment included a 15 month deployment to Iraq during the early days of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Unfortunately, Cheryl’s career in the service ended after almost four years of service, when she became injured. Due to a medical discharge, she would not be able to be a JAG officer and serve the Army as a lawyer. Cheryl didn’t miss a beat. After returning to civilian life, she promptly enrolled in school, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology before attending Seattle University’s School of Law.. In law school, Cheryl knew she wanted to be an advocate for veterans and work as a defense attorney early on. From May 2010, after her first year of law school, Cheryl worked as a legal intern with Charlie Swift at Swift & McDonald, PS, a firm that focused on military law and family law for service members. As a legal intern, Cheryl handled Board of Correction cases,court-martial cases, administrative separations, Appeals to nonjudicial punishments and Letters of Reprimand, as well assecurity clearances cases, and assisted with Family law Divorce and Child Custody cases for almost three years. Cheryl further expanded her knowledge by working with the Northwest Justice Project, Veterans Division, where she provided legal aid to homeless veterans and veterans on the verge of homelessness. Cheryl’s determination and strong work ethic allowed her to work at Swift & McDonald, PS and the Northwest Justice Project while attending school. After Cheryl’s externship with the Northwest Justice Project ended, she continued on solely as a legal intern at Swift & McDonald, PS, eventually becoming an associate after she graduated from Seattle University School of Law in May 2013.. Cheryl’s passion for legal matters that affect service members and veterans is not her only passion. She is also has a labor of love about snowboarding, dancing, and spending time with her husband and son.
