Place of settlement in general

Official statutory text

Every person of full age who is a resident of, and domiciled without interruption in, a municipality for five years, or in a county for five years but not in a municipality thereof, excluding in the computation of the period the time if any spent by the person in a charitable or correctional institution, shall be deemed settled respectively in that municipality or county and shall so remain until he has: a. Gained a like settlement in some other municipality or county in this state; b. Gained a legal settlement elsewhere in this state; or c. Removed from this state and remained therefrom continuously for one year, in which case the person shall not retain his settlement in a county or municipality in this state.
