§ 3027. Discrimination based on age prohibited. Notwithstanding any\nprovision of law to the contrary, no board of education in any city,\nunion free, common or central school district in this state shall\nhereafter prohibit, prevent, disqualify or discriminate against any\nperson who is physically and mentally qualified from competing,\nparticipating, or registering for an examination for or from qualifying\nfor, a position as teacher, or be penalized in a final rating by reason\nof his or her age. Any such rule, requirement, resolution, regulation\nor penalization of such board shall be void.\n Nothing herein contained, however, shall prevent such board from\nadopting reasonable minimum or maximum age requirements for positions\nwhich require extraordinary physical effort, except where age limits for\nsuch positions are already prescribed by law.\n
