N.Y. JUD Law § 176

§ 176. Justices of city court of the city of New York. The justices of\nthe city court of the city of New York shall be elected upon the\nexpiration of the terms of office of the present incumbents or their\nsuccessors at the next ensuing general election. The full term of office\nof a justice of the city court of New York shall be ten years. When a\nvacancy shall occur otherwise than by expiration of term of office of a\njustice of such court, it shall be filled for a full term at the next\ngeneral election and until the vacancy is so filled the governor, by and\nwith the advice and consent of the senate if the senate shall be in\nsession, or if not in session, the governor may fill such vacancy by\nappointment.\n The successors of the present nine justices who when elected or\nappointed were residents of the county of New York, shall be residents\nof and shall be elected by the electors in New York county. The\nsuccessors to the present four justices, who when elected or appointed\nwere residents of the county of the Bronx, shall be residents of and\nshall be elected by the electors in Bronx county. The successors to the\npresent five justices, who when elected or appointed were residents of\nthe county of Kings, shall be residents of and shall be elected by the\nelectors in Kings county. The successors to the present three justices,\nwho when elected or appointed were residents of the county of Queens,\nshall be residents of and shall be elected by the electors in Queens\ncounty. The successors to the present justice, who when elected or\nappointed was a resident of the county of Richmond, shall be a resident\nof and shall be elected by the electors in Richmond county.\n The annual salary and compensation of each justice of the city court\nof the city of New York, other than the chief justice thereof, for all\nservices performed by him shall be twenty-five thousand dollars. The\nannual salary and compensation of the chief justice of such court for\nall such services shall be twenty-six thousand dollars.\n
