§ 910. Definitions. The following words and phrases as used in this\narticle shall have the following meanings unless a different meaning is\nplainly required by the context:\n a. "Retirement system" shall mean the New York city teachers'\nretirement system, the New York city board of education retirement\nsystem or the New York city employees' retirement system.\n b. "Eligible member" shall mean a member of a retirement system other\nthan a member who (1) is an employee of the New York city transit\nauthority, and (2) is either (i) subject to the provisions of section\n13-161 of the administrative code of the city of New York or (ii) a New\nYork city transit authority member as defined in paragraph one of\nsubdivision a of section six hundred four-b of this chapter.\nNotwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the benefits\nprovided herein shall only apply to an eligible member who is a member\nof a retirement system as defined by subdivision a of this section.\n c. "Active service" shall mean (1) service while being paid on the\npayroll; (2) a leave of absence with pay; (3) other approved leave\nwithout pay; (4) any period of time between school terms for a teacher\nor other employee employed on a school-year basis; and (5) periods of\ntime between regularly scheduled periods of paid service in the city\nuniversity of New York.\n d. "Cessation date" shall mean the later of (1) October first, two\nthousand or (2) the date on which the eligible member attains ten years\nof membership or, if earlier, ten years of credited service.\n
