My practice is focused on the defense of transportation companies, retailers, and myriad corporate and commercial enterprises. I also represent leading insurance companies on coverage issues in state and federal court.. In addition, a substantial portion of my practice has involved representing self-insured companies at every stage of trial and appellate practice. As a result, I am especially well-versed with the dynamics of dealing with the relationships among the insured, insurer and counsel to achieve the optimal result.. During my more than 35 years with Higgins Cavanagh & Cooney, I have tried dozens of jury trials in the state and federal courts and have argued numerous appeals in the Rhode Island Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. I am also a court-approved arbitrator for the Rhode Island Superior Court and have served as a mediator for that court since 1996.
