Having practiced law since 1989,Cynthia Umstead serves clients primarily in the five county are that includes Jefferson and Shelby Counties, I handle many drug and capital murder cases. I feel that I was meant to help people in this way. In a capital case , you're dealing with the human element not just that an act occurred, but why it happened. In a case where a client is guilty, the jury wants to know how this came about.. Cynthia Umstead a graduate of Birmingham School of Law, admits the stress of a criminal trial can be overwhelming at times . There is a lot of pressure, bit the key is caring about your client and having empathy for them. You also have to be willing to invest hundreds of hours in preparation. It is time consuming, but when you see someone get that second chance, it's priceless. This truly is my passion.
