Ellwanger, Attorney at Law in early 2014 after seeking election as the Municipal Court Judge of Roswell. She was named a Super Lawyer Rising Star for 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.. Prior to starting her own practice, Melanie was a senior associate with Head, Thomas , Webb & Willis, Georgia's largest DUI defense firm. Ms. Ellwanger focused on DUI and Traffic violations, but worked on a new treatise on civil law with Senior Partner William C. Head that is set to be published.. Prior to joining Head, Thomas, Webb & Willis, LLC, Ms. Ellwanger was employed as an Assistant Solicitor with the Forsyth County Solicitor-General’s Office where she was responsible for the prosecution of over 1000 criminal cases including DUI, domestic violence, traffic charges and other crimes.  Ms. Ellwanger also served as a prosecutor for the county’s DUI Court program when she prosecuted. She attended various police officer training classes including NHTSA DUI Detection and Field Sobriety Testing, where she earned a Certificate of Completion.  Before accepting a position with the Solicitor’s Office, Ms. Ellwanger worked as a law clerk and investigative assistant with the Hall County Public Defender’s Office in Gainesville, Georgia.. Ms. Ellwanger is a graduate of University of Arkansas School of Law. During her first and second summer in law school, Ms. Ellwanger was a law clerk with Andrew, Merritt, Reilly & Smith in Lawrenceville, Georgia where she worked in corporate law, as well as probate and estate planning.  In the following summer, Ms. Ellwanger was a Summer Associate with Whelchel and Dunlap in Gainesville, Georgia where she gained experience in both civil and criminal law.. Before attending law school, Ms. Ellwanger graduated from the Women’s College of Brenau University, cum laude, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and Conflict Resolution.   She was the recipient of the Brenau Scholar Award and was a member of Gamma Sigma Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Honor Societies.  During her time at Brenau,  Ms. Ellwanger was actively involved in the community through the Brenau University Leadership Program.
