During her matriculation, she served as president of the Alpha Beta Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society.. While earning her Juris Doctorate from Western Michigan University's Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, Katera served as vice chairperson of the Moot Court Board as well as the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She acquired extensive experience in the criminal law arena by working with the Washtenaw Public Defender’s Office in Michigan, where she represented clients charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses.. As a third year law student, Katera worked as a prosecutor in the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office investigating and prosecuting felony criminal cases. After graduating and passing the bar, she went on to further her career by practicing criminal defense in the Atlanta area.. To diversify her legal experience, Katera also practiced as a plaintiff’s attorney. She worked on various aspects of civil litigation, and successfully obtained substantial judgements on behalf of clients.
