John Rolater has been an Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Collin County and Chief of the Appellate Division for eight years. Previously, he was an Assistant Criminal District Attorney for Dallas County for eleven years, including three years as Deputy Chief of the Appellate Division. In 2003, the Greater Dallas Crime Commission recognized him as the Henry Wade Prosecutor of the Year.. John has been involved in the post-conviction litigation of several high-profile capital cases. He has led reinvestigations and represented the State in litigation related to exonerations. He has been a legislative liaison for both the Collin and Dallas County Criminal District Attorneys.. John earned his BBA from the University of Texas at Austin and his J.D. from the Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, where he served as an editor of the Law Review and was selected as a member of the Order of the Coif. Following law school, John clerked for the Honorable Paul McCollum and the Honorable Anne Crawford McClure of the El Paso Court of Appeals.. John is an active member of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association. He has taught continuing legal education courses for TDCAA, the State Bar of Texas, the Center for American and International Law, the Texas Center for the Judiciary and UT-CLE. He co-authored a book on confession law, now in its third edition. He is Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
