He became an attorney despite the fact that he never graduated from a law school. Instead, he learned law the old fashioned way, by "reading the law" and apprenticing with an experienced attorney. He then sat for the California Bar Exam and passed it on his first attempt, making him one of only six people in the preceding ten years to study law in this fashion and pass the California Bar Exam on the first attempt.Tommy completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in history.
