About Matthew Barron Covington
I am a native Charlottean who received a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004. After college, I entered the charter class of the Elon University School of Law. There I was a member of the Elon School of Law Moot Court Team, a Research Assistant and Web Developer for the Center for Engaged Learning in the Law, and Technology Director and Website Designer for the Elon Law Student Bar Association. I graduated in 2009 and received his J.D. degree as a member of the Elon University School of Law inaugural class and later passed the North Carolina Bar in July 2009.I returned to Charlotte and began practicing workers’ compensation defense with Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog. I am affiliated with the North Carolina Bar Association, Mecklenburg County Bar Association, North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, and Defense Research Institute. I have defended complex workers’ compensation claims and appeared in evidentiary and appellate hearings before the North Carolina Industrial Commission. Notable litigated issues include successful defending against psychological trauma, occupational diseases, repetitive motion cervical conditions, Lyme Disease, N.C.G.S. 97-2(18) disputed hernias, and injury by accident claims.My wife and I are avid travelers who have set foot on 4 continents and 30 countries.
