Kate’s behind the scenes experience has been invaluable in providing her with insight on nursing home and other civil litigation cases that most lawyers do not have. She worked as a staff attorney for Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jack Goger. This enabled her to learn the Court’s perspective regarding hundreds of different cases, including nursing home abuse, car accidents, medical malpractice, trucking accidents any many more, from the initial discovery stages through jury trial. She was also formally trained as a mediator while working for the Court.. After Kate completed her clerkship with Judge Goger, she worked for one of Atlanta’s top civil litigation defense firms, Carlock, Copeland & Stair, where she was made partner after building a successful nursing home practice. While at Carlock, Kate worked for many major insurance companies defending cases focusing on nursing home abuse, medical malpractice, and motor vehicle accidents. Learning about the nursing home industry from the inside out has made Kate an asset to any nursing home case.  Also knowing how the big insurance companies operate behind the scenes ensures Kate can evaluate a case the same way the insurance company does and know what they are thinking, what they are doing and why they are doing it.. Kate handles cases anywhere from the pre-suit phase, trial and the appellate level. Not all lawyers are able to handle appeals on the cases they litigate, but Kate argues her own appeals. She has even been fortunate enough to successfully argue before the Georgia Supreme Court.. Kate grew up in Lilburn, Georgia and attended Parkview High School. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia where she underwent a full time internship at the Athens-Clarke County Solicitor General’s office.
