I am also an avid runner, and when I am not practicing law or spending time with my family, I am a coach for Team In Training (endurance training program and fundraising arm of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society), helping people train to complete a marathon or half marathon. I have been a marathon coach for over 15 years.. I have two children, who are both high school seniors in the 2015-16 school year and will be attending college here in Texas next year.

I am Board Certified in Texas Criminal Law and have practiced in Texas since 1980.

I am Board Certified in residential and commercial real estate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and handle all aspects of real estate transactions involving residential, commercial and multi-family property, as well as real estate litigation. I also handle a great deal of employment litigation and document review. My litigation experience includes being lead counsel at the trial level, lead counsel in appeals to the Texas Third Court of Appeals and lead counsel experience in the Texas Supreme Court. I am currently handling a widely-publicized whistleblower lawsuit against one of the largest governmental agencies in Texas and have handled other whistleblower lawsuits, one of which lead to the introduction of legislation to amend the Texas Whistleblower Act found in the Texas Government Code. I am currently active in a Qui Tam action involving the potentially fraudulent actions of a large player in the medical industry.  This vast experience helps provide my clients with value-driven representation and zealous advocacy.

I am approaching my one-year anniversary with the amazing firm of Cofer & Connelly, but I've been practicing law in Texas for twenty years – and managed to hang onto the English accent I was born with! Raised on a farm just outside London, my first career was as a journalist (covering mostly police and crime stories) for about a decade before turning to the law.. Reversing my mother's footsteps, I moved to America in 1995 and attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where I graduated with highest honors from their journalism school. From there, I traded light blue for dark and attended Duke University School of Law, graduating cum laude.. A few years working commercial litigation cases with a big firm in Dallas convinced me that I needed to return to my lifelong interest in all things criminal. I was hired by the Travis County District Attorney's Office in 2006 and in the intervening years I've handled just about every type of criminal case there is. That includes being lead prosecutor on a dozen murder cases (one of them a capital murder case) and trying dozens of felony cases before a jury. One of my specialties is juvenile criminal law, having handled thousands of cases as a prosecutor over a period of five years in that division of the office, from Class B misdemeanors to capital murder and everything in between.. Academic and legal achievements aside, if my name is familiar to you it's likely because I am the author of a series of mystery novels! The first of those, The Bookseller, was published in 2012 and made 's mystery list. Since then, I've published ten novels, and am very excited about a new series starting in August, published by Minotaur/St. Martin's.

I am an attorney with a passion for helping others.  I recently moved to Austin from Fort Worth, where I worked at Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas helping low income individuals obtain access to justice.. I have experience with many areas of general civil litigation, including consumer and DTPA claims, public benefits, real estate contracts, unemployment benefits, wage claims, and a host of other areas.. While at Legal Aid, I was the sole attorney assigned to Project H.I.R.E.D. - a project designed to help people remove barriers to employment.  To this end, I assisted clients in cleaning their criminal history through expunctions, nondisclosures, and juvenile sealings.  I also helped individuals obtain occuational driver's licenses and assisted in obtaining relief from surcharges through the indiency/incentive program..
