Kevin grew up in rural East Tennessee. His parents divorced when he was nine years old, but continued to feud throughout the remainder of his childhood, giving him unique insight into the needs of Family Law clients. As a result of that divorce, Kevin changed schools multiple times before eventually graduating from Central High School in Wartburg, Tennessee.. In his youth, Kevin had more than a few run-ins with The Law, and developed his desire to practice law partially as a result of having hired bad attorneys or having to represent himself because he couldn’t afford an attorney.. Preferring work to school, Kevin spent several years working as a lineman before going to college. He started that career as a ditch-digger on a buried cable placement crew. From there, he advanced to lineman, then to inspector, and finally to design engineer.. Looking to travel, Kevin took the jobs that no one else wanted, in places no one else wanted to go. He dug ditches, swung hammers, and climbed poles & towers. He created maps and digital models. He planned utility systems.. Kevin traveled the nation building those utility systems. Doing so, he developed the skills that placed him on the team that designed the fastest internet in the world for Chattanooga’s EPB.. That, however, was not his calling. Kevin always wanted to practice law. After their children finished school, Kevin and his wife decided it was time for him to pursue that career. So, Kevin left his job with the Electric Power Board, and entered law school.. Kevin is the only graduate of The University of Tennessee College of Law on record to complete both the Concentration in Business Transactions and the Concentration in Advocacy & Dispute Resolution. To accomplish this, Kevin carried a full load every semester, took summer classes, did an independent study, and used seasonal and holiday breaks to study.. During law school, Kevin served as a clerk for U.S. District Judge Clifton Corker and for Chief Bankruptcy Judge Marcia Parsons, both in Greeneville, TN.. After law school, Kevin joined a Chattanooga-based firm where he spent a decade representing and consulting with a wide variety of clients.. In January of 2025, with the intention of providing better representation at a lower cost, Kevin left that firm to start his own. That is how Hargis Law came to be.. Kevin’s blue-collar background and lived experiences give him the ability to better relate to our clients and understand their needs. He strives to provide zealous representation at a reasonable cost.. Text Hargis Law at to schedule a consultation. Feel free to text any day, any time, and we will respond as soon as we are available!. Kevin currently limits his litigation practice to East Tennessee courts, where he practices Criminal Defense and Family Law.. This geographical limit does not apply to his transactional practice, and he handles Wills, POAs, Advanced Healthcare Directives (aka Living Wills), Business Entity Formation, and Trademark work for folks outside of the East Tennessee area as well as for those within it.
