After spending several years representing creditors in debt collection and bankruptcy proceedings, I realized that I just didn’t enjoy telling people what I did for a living. Struggling with financial difficulties can be one of the hardest things anyone can face. I love being a personal bankruptcy attorney, and I have committed myself to counseling and guiding my clients during through the bankruptcy process. My experience as a creditors’ attorney means that, if the time comes, I can anticipate what actions your creditors will take and how to best respond to them. I also have extensive litigation experience. If a creditor decides to oppose your bankruptcy filing, I will use that experience to fight for the best result for you.. When you come to your free, confidential bankruptcy consultation, you will have my undivided attention. I know that you are not feeling good about filing bankruptcy. When you and I sit down together, we will thoroughly discuss all of your financial affairs and together decide whether or not bankruptcy is your best option. I know that you are looking for a personal bankruptcy lawyer who doesn’t keep looking at his watch and will give you an honest opinion.. Before I became an attorney, I grew up in Casper, WY and graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1997. I am licensed in California and Colorado. When I’m not helping people create their new financial future, I enjoy spending time with my family and exploring Colorado by motorcycle.
After law school I worked for the Colorado Courts. I began as a Judicial Fellow in the 18th Judicial District from 2006 to 2007. I was then hired as Colorado's Death Penalty Law Clerk. In that position, I assisted the judges in Colorado who had active capital cases pending on their dockets including assiting in the jury selection and trials of three of those cases involving more than 10,000 perspective jurors. I have been with Springer and Steinberg since 2010 where my practice focuses on criminal defense in state and federal courts throughout the country, state and federal appellate practice, and select civil practice.. I practice law in order to speak my clients' truth to power. Despite our system of laws, there is much work to be done to bring justice and compassion to the law. My passion is to inject justice into the system, which allows me to better tell my clients' stories, to aggressively advocate for their best interests, and to win on their behalf.
After graduating magna cum laude from college, I became a claims adjuster working for insurance companies for 10 years. That experience gave me valuable insight into how insurance companies operate. After graduating from law school at the top of my class, I became a personal injury trial lawyer because I knew that the insurance companies took advantage of injured victims when they were the most vulnerable. I take great pride in obtaining the maximum compensation allowed by law for my clients.. I have been a trial lawyer for over 35 years and while the legal landscape keeps changing, what has not changed is our firm's availability to our clients 24 hours a day seven days a week with personal and caring service. Every client receives my personal cell number so clients can always get the answers they need.
After graduating from Tulane Law School in 1994, I settled in the Denver area practicing at prestigious law firms in the Metro area. In 2004, I opened my own practice focusing solely on family law. In 2016, I began my mediation practice because I had seen too many cases which should have settled, rather than going the route of litigation. Today, my mediation practice focuses solely on helping people come together in an easier, more affordable manner, so they can move on with their lives in a more harmonious fashion.. I have lectured at numerous family law conferences, sat on the Ethics Committee for several years, and have been admitted to the Colorado Bar, the United States District Court, District of Colorado, and the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. I am a mother, stepmother, divorcee happily remarried, traveler, dog lover and good restaurant junkie. I look forward to helping you with any and all family law matters without the high cost of litigation.

A native of California but a Coloradoan by choice, I was born and raised in Santa Maria, California. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science from California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. After moving to Colorado, I completed the ABA approved paralegal certificate program at Denver Paralegal Institute.. After a few years as a paralegal, I made a decision to enter law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. While in law school, I continued to work part-time for a collection firm, completed an internship with the Honorable A. Bruce Campbell, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, completed an internship in estate planning, and completed an internship in landlord/tenant and other areas of law. I received my J.D. from the University of Denver Law School and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in November 2009. After passing the bar, I worked for a large Colorado landlord/tenant firm two years, then spent an additional year with a multi-state firm managing legal collections. Opening my own a firm and working for myself has been a long time desire. I look forward to representing clients with a focus on excellent service, dealing with consumers with respect, and striving to meet highest ethical standards. In 2014, I took the bar exams in Nevada and New Mexico, and I am now licensed in three states.
A native New Yorker, I was born and raised in New York (Queens and Long Island), before falling in love with Colorado and moving here over ten years ago. I am a 1990 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After three years of working as a paralegal in a major law firm in New York City, I decided to make the leap and enroll in law school. I received my Juris Doctor in 1996 from the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in Long Island, New York. During law school, I focused on gaining practical experience through participation in internships and clinics. I was a summer intern at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office where I became familiar with the inner workings of the criminal justice system. During my second year of law school I participated in the Mental Health Disability Law Clinic, and gained valuable insight while working on cases, many of which were class action law suits against New York State. This clinic has been a leading force in the movement to provide protection and advocacy for those who have been diagnosed as mentally ill. After the completion of the clinic, I continued to work with the professor over the summer in a paid summer internship position. This clinic experience provided me a sense of how I could be a positive force, as an attorney, in the lives of clients who are unable to advocate for themselves through a complex legal system. My first introduction to domestic relations law was through the participation in a semester long Family Law Clinic in 1995. In addition to being exposed to the divorce process and the many issues attendant to a dissolution of marriage, I represented individuals who were the victims of domestic violence by assisting them in obtaining a protection orders from the court. Upon graduation from law school, I worked for the Suffolk County Legal Aid Society as a criminal defense attorney where I was thrown into the courtroom environment and forced to sink or swim. I quickly learned to overcome any fears I had of working in a field of law that requires me to appear in court. I decided to take my time and explore different facets of the practice of law, and decided to shift gears by taking a job in the corporate environment. In this position, I learned quite a bit about the discovery process in large civil litigation cases. I also realized at that point that I did not want to continue representing the faceless corporate client and that I longed to connect with my clients on a much deeper level. I felt that my interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people was not being maximized in the corporate context. I’ve found that the perfect fit for my skills is through the representation of litigants in family law. This field of law also hits home for me, having experienced the divorce of my own parents as a young child. My personal background enhances my ability to relate to my clients, and this makes me uniquely qualified as a lawyer in this field of practice. I am very sensitive to the impact this process has on the family, especially the children, as a child of divorce myself. I make it a point to keep my clients focused on their children and how their decisions and actions throughout the course of their case will impact their children. Whenever possible, it is my goal to move my clients toward resolution outside the courtroom, as this almost always results in the least detrimental effect upon the family. However, there are situations when the parties simply cannot resolve an issue, and, in that case, I am fully prepared to represent my client’s interests in the courtroom setting. I volunteered my time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Denver CASA, an organization that strives to protect children and be a voice for their best interests within the juvenile justice system. While I miss my home state of New York at times, I enjoy living in Denver with my husband Michael and our two beautiful children and would not trade it for the world.. A great majority of my clients have never retained an attorney previously. Criminal charges, divorce, job loss, family, business or employment problems cause individuals to find themselves ensnared in civil and/or criminal courts. Law abiding citizens are normally completely unprepared when they are served with court papers and are at a loss as to how to respond. If you are arrested you should not give any statement to the police without legal counsel. Please contact me directly if you have legal questions. If my law office cannot help you I should be able to refer you to attorneys that may be able to help you.
