Patent law first intrigued me while working on a boat in the Caribbean on crystal clear, blue waters. I was a photographer with an assignment to help with a pending patent infringement lawsuit by taking pictures of fishing lines with various color treatments to determine the accuracy and enablement of whether fluorescent dyes in fishing lines are activated underwater in fishing lines.. I became a patent lawyer in large measure due to that early project. I have an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in Chemical Engineering and my law degree from The George Washington University.. I have been a patent examiner, and now my practice involves most aspects of matters that involve a patent, a trademark, a copyright and the asociated business interests around these topics.. I offer an extended consultation to better gauge whether you need help and, if so, just how I can help.
Our team of experienced attorneys and paralegals is dedicated to improving the lives of our clients by resolving family law disputes efficiently and in a manner tailored to meet the needs of each case. An important part of our process is educating the client about rights and available options from the very beginning of the case. We consider our clients partners in the process and facilitate their ability to engage in informed decision making throughout the course of each case. Our strength is exceptional attention to detail and preparation, which benefits clients in a broad range of family law matters and in cases ranging from uncontested matters to those with complex business and financial assets. We are equally at home in the courtroom or at the mediation table, and work hard to achieve excellent results for our clients.
Our firm is a general litigation practice with a focus on employment law and criminal/traffic defense. Many clients with even minor criminal and traffic charges are rightfully concerned about the impact such a charge will have on their employment.. We can help explain how these types of charges affect your job or your security clearance and we can work to minimize the impact.. At Hogan & Pritchard, PLLC, we also advise clients on various legal issues that arise in the workplace, including discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unpaid wage/overtime claims, severance package negotiations, and unemployment compensation.
Our firm has the luxury of being able to limit our practice to Plaintiff's personal injury work. We never represent corporations or insurance companies - only injured people. This allows us to be extremely familiar with the types of issues that are presented in personal injury cases - allegations of pre-existing injury, contributory negligence and problems of permanent injuries. It also allows us to spend less time re-inventing the wheel and researching the issues that come in in every case and more time focusing on the little things in your case that will have a big impact in the courtroom.
One of the founding principals of the firm, Dickson J. Young concentrates his practice on federal and state criminal defense, personal injury, wrongful death, driving while intoxicated, and general criminal litigation. As a litigator, Mr. Young has tried and argued cases at all levels of the Virginia court system. This has enabled him to represent a diverse group of individuals, including elected officials, industry professionals, judges, and professional athletes. He has a wealth of legal expertise and experience, and his approach to serving the client is regarded as amicable and resourceful. He puts himself in the shoes of the person he represents and knows how important freedom is. He appreciates how hard it is to earn a living and how costly the provision of legal services can be, so he works to bring value to the client equation. His fellow attorneys have given him their highest peer review rating, AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated SM by Martindale-Hubbell®.. Mr. Young is an active member of several local, state and national bar associations. He has lectured in seminars for many of those associations, as well as for the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy. One of the firm's founders, Edward W. ("Sunny") Cameron started the firm in 2009 after spending nearly 21 years at a mid-size Northern Virginia firm where he was a partner and a longstanding member of the board of directors. Cameron/McEvoy was founded on the belief that a boutique litigation firm that handles complicated (and, sometimes, "bet the company") matters on an efficient and cost-effective manner, but without compromising on the quality of the legal services provided, could thrive in an increasingly competitive business climate. Now in its 7th year, the firm's success is bearing out that founding belief.. Sunny has a substantial practice with a broad base of clients that is devoted primarily to civil litigation in the state and federal courts. Sunny represents businesses and individuals in a wide range of complex matters, including commercial, construction, banking, real estate and employment disputes.. In addition to his extensive background in trial work, Sunny is highly experienced in the appellate arena in both the state and federal systems. He also has handled a significant number of matters through alternate dispute resolution (ADR) -- both mediation and arbitration.. Sunny is a member of the Virginia State Bar and is admitted to practice in all jurisdictions within Virginia. He also is routinely admitted to practice in jurisdictions beyond Virginia on a pro hac vice basis.

My practice is primarily focused in Northern Virginia. I have been practicing law for approximately (28) years. I would describe myself best as a trial lawyer. Most of the cases I have recently been involved in relate to criminal law and traffic law. I do also handle family law and personal injury. I enjoy working with people and I have a very interesting career. I consider myself very lucky to have been given the opportunity to be a lawyer. If you want a hands on attorney - I am the one!
My practice has focused exclusively on family law since 2016. I handle matters including divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, business valuation, step-parent adoption, premarital agreements, protective orders, and enforcement issues. My cases have included complex issues such as mental health concerns, domestic abuse, alcohol and drug addiction, parental alienation, financial tracing, and unilateral dissipation of assets.. I believe that litigation is often the last resort in handling family law matters. I encourage my clients to consider alternatives to litigation, including lawyer negotiation, mediation, and collaborative law. However, I recognize that some cases are not appropriate for settlement and litigation is necessary for resolution. Regardless of how your matter is resolved, I will zealously advocate for a resolution that serves your best interests, including consideration of your financial, emotional, and legal rights and needs.. I currently practice in Arlington County, City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince William County in circuit courts and juvenile and domestic relations courts.
My philosophy as a lawyer is to establish a strong attorney-client relationship. My goal is to connect with each client and deliver quality work, personalized service, and exceptional value. As your counselor and representative, you can be confident that everything possible will be done to protect your rights. My litigation practice is focused in the areas of divorce and family law. I understand that divorce is one of the most stressful events a person will undergo during their lives. With that in mind, I strive to maintain prompt communication with clients and to keep clients informed throughout the process.. I am licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am a member of the Fairfax and Loudoun County Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar. I also maintain the firm's blog: Virginia Family Law Resource ().. I currently serve as Chief of Stonewall Jackson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (SJVFD) in Manassas, Virignia. In addition I am a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Board of the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Association. I am also chair of the Training Advisory Committee and member of the Uniform Rank Committee.. I work with clients throughout Northern Virginia. My firm maintains offices in Leesburg, Fairfax and Fredericksburg which gives us flexibility in meeting with our clients.
My legal career has been exclusively about litigation. Initially as an insurance defense attorney and general practitioner. During my years as a civil defense attorney, I learned much about the defense playbook. Over time, My interests and practice shifted primarily to representation of injured workers and those injured due to the negligence of others. My experience with defense work has been very helpful in determining case values and litigation strategies.. What is most enjoyable about my practice is helping others. The legal system is not engineered for prompt resolution of disputes. That function therefore must rest upon the attorney, and not all are equal. Good results require prompt, thorough, and accurate case evaluation and a strategy for resolution. Implementation of the strategy is best achieved by joint and coordinated efforts of the attorney and client. The simple rule that I have always followed is to handle the case no differently than I would want it handled if I were the client.
My approach to the practice of family law is client-centered. In other words, my goals are to make you feel comfortable and cared for as a person as well as to provide you with top notch legal advice and legal representation.. Most of my cases - even the high conflict ones - settle out of court, which is the best outcome because it allows you to remain in control of how you will parent your children and how you will divide your assets and debts rather than allowing a judge to decide based on the limited information that is admissible in court. Settlement also keeps your attorney fees down and reduces the likelihood of future litigation.. I have been trained to practice collaborative law, which is a fairly new process that allows the parties to agree to stay out of the court system to resolve their differences privately while still within a formal structure. In a collaborative divorce, each party has an attorney, and often the parties share a team of neutral, collaborative professionals in the areas that apply to their case - like finance and parenting - to make well educated decisions about their future. To have a collaborative divorce, both parties must agree to participate in the process, to disclose all relevant information, and to retain an attorney with the required training. If your spouse is not represented by a collaborative attorney, settlement is still possible through mediation or through more traditional negotiation.. If you and your spouse choose to resolve your marital problems through the process of mediation, your mediator will be a neutral who cannot provide you with legal advice or protect your individual interests. I can represent you in this process to make sure you understand the law and make good decisions. Alternatively, I am able to serve in the role of the neutral mediator.. If a fair settlement is not possible, I am prepared to advocate for you to the judge. Since 2006, I have handled an array of family law cases in Virginia trial courts, ranging from complex divorce cases involving business valuations to more discrete post-divorce motions to modify or enforce prior custody, visitation, and support awards.. I am also trained to work with divorcing couples as a mediator. In this role, I will not represent you or your spouse as your legal counsel becuase I am in a neutral, impartial role. I will facilitate discussion about the questions that need to be answered, and you and your spouse will be empowered to make decisions about what feels fair to you and what will work best for your unique family. If a mediated agreement is reached, you can move forward with a simple uncontested divorce.. I have been recognized in teh Washingtonian and Northern Virginia Magazine as one of the area's top family law attorneys. I have also been recognized as a Virginia Super Lawyer since 2013, which is based on peer nominations, peer evaluations, and independent research. I have also been included in the Super Lawyer list of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Virginia and the list of the Top 100 Lawyers in Virginia. Throughout my career, I have been active in the area of Continuing Legal Education. I was selected by the Virginia Supreme Court as a member of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Board from 2014-2017; and, I have been a member of the Fairfax Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee since 2006, serving as a the Committee co-chair in 2011-2013 and vice chair in 2010. I have spoken as a panelist on the topic of family law at the 2016 Fall Conference & 35th Anniversary Celebration of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association and at a 2012 seminar presented by the Virginia Pro Bono Law Center. I received my training certificate from the Collaborative Practice Training Institute in 2018 and I am a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, Collaborative Professionals of Northern Virginia, and Virginia Collaborative Professionals. I am a member of the family law sections of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Fairfax Bar Association. I am also a member of the Arlington Bar Association.
