Paul K. Waterman grew up in Iowa City, Iowa.  After graduating from law school in 2004, Paul worked in Washington, D.C., with an appellate practice, including assisting in drafting the brief in Duke Energy, which helped win a 9-0 decision by the Supreme Court.  Paul returned to Iowa in 2006 and has worked at law firms in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, primarily practicing in Family Law, Personal Injury, and Business Litigation. J. Dean Keegan was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa. After high school Dean served in the United States Navy and eventually settled in Iowa City in 1975. Dean received a Bachelor of General Studies degree from the University of Iowa with coursework emphasis in Social Work and Counseling. From 1979 until 1982 Dean worked as a probation officer with a caseload exclusively of people who were convicted of Operating While Intoxicated. In 1982 Dean went to work for the University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. While employed there Dean co-authorized a theoretical model for the treatment for alcoholism which he presented at the Thirty-First International Institute on the Prevention and Treatment of Alcoholism in Rome, Italy. As a presenter at the conference Dean participated in a Special Private Audience with Pope John Paul II to discuss improved methods for treating alcoholism. From 1989 Dean began the accelerated program at the University of Iowa College of Law and graduated in 1991. Dean joined with Kinnamon, Kinnamon, Russo and Meyer in 1992 as an association of sole practitioners.. Dean is a longstanding Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the American Association for Justice, and the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association. Dean was appointed to the Board of Governors of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association in 2003. He founded the Criminal Law Section of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association in the same year. He was Chair of the Criminal Law Section from 2003 to 2006 and a member of the Executive Board of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association from 2003 to 2006. Dean is currently a member of the Board of the Criminal Law Section of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association and the Board of Governors of the Association. His position with the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association has allowed him to draft legislation and lobby in the state of Iowa for common sense amendments to laws governing OWI revocations and CDL cancellations.. In 2008 Dean was accepted for admittance into the National College for DUI Defense, an organization that promotes effective and aggressive defense of citizens accused of driving under the influence. This organization sponsors seminars for defense attorneys to hone their skills in the defense of OWI and DUI cases. In June of 2009, Dean attended a 28 hour comprehensive seminar co-sponsored by the College covering the forensics of blood and urine testing. And in April of 2009, he completed training in the National Highway Safety Administration and International Association of Chiefs of Police DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing - the same training that officers receive when they learn to administer field sobriety tests.. I started practicing law in 1981 and worked in a variety of areas, including criminal defense, personal injury, and prisoner rights.  My practice in those areas helped me to realize the importance of doing work that reflects my values of social justice and compassion.  I knew I had found my niche when I won my first Social Security Disability case in the mid-80s.  Since then, my disability practice has grown to also include Workers' Compensation and Veterans' Benefits.  In 2011, together with a group of like-minded colleagues, I founded the Hoefer Law Firm, a firm that is exclusively dedicated to obtaining benefits for people with injuries and disabilities.

Eric D. Tindal was born in Iowa City, Iowa and was raised in Kalona, Iowa.   While still in high school Eric joined the United States Army Reserves and he served until 1999.  While in the military Eric was trained as a Combat Medic and a Respiratory Specialist.  From the age of 19 until graduating from law school Eric worked in the intensive care units at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Eric also worked for several years at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa and Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.  This experience proved to be invaluable in working with injured clients and with expert witnesses.. Dick was admitted to the practice of law in Iowa in 1975. He has spent the last 40 years as a trial lawyer focused on representing health care professionals and institutions in medical malpractice litigation and regulatory proceedings. He has also successfully argued cases before the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court. In recognition of his skills as a trial lawyer and the respect he has among lawyers on both sides of lawsuits, Dick has been elected by his peers to membership in the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers.. Dick was born and raised in Iowa City. He received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Stanford University in 1971 and his law degree with honors from the University of Iowa in 1975. He then joined his father in law practice in Iowa City where he continues to live and practice. Dick is married to Buffie Tucker and they have two daughters, Jessica and Ashley. Dean grew up on a grain and livestock farm near Iowa City, passed the Certified Public Accountant exam, and focuses on pre-death estate planning and post-death trust/estate administration. His practice includes (i) establishing revocable (living) trusts to avoid probate and facilitate privacy, (ii) creating wills, trusts and retirement-account beneficiary designations with customized provisions to accomplish family-specific goals, such as delaying inheritances for immature beneficiaries, (iii) implementing powers of attorney for finances and for healthcare/medical directives (living wills), and (iv) administering probate estates and trusts and filing the necessary tax returns.

Connie was born in Clarinda, Iowa, but grew up in Rock Island, Illinois.  She graduated from Rock Island Senior High School in 1969, and attended college in Illinois, graduating in 1973.  Prior to attending law school as a non-traditional student, Connie was licensed as a teacher in both Illinois and Iowa.  She taught children with special education needs (Learning Disabilities) in both states at the elementary level, first in Dubuque, Iowa and then back in her hometown o Rock Island, Illinois.  She moved back to Iowa in 1982 to attend law school, graduating with her JD in 1985.  She passed the bar and began working as a law clerk for the judges of the Sixth Judicial District of Iowa for two years.  She then began the active practice of law, gradually shifting from general practice to one geared mainly to family law.. Connie has taken an active interest in issues surrounding domestic violence, child custody, and paternity.  She has taken the 40 hour course in family law mediation and is able to negotiate settlements as well as try cases in court.  Every family is unique and she likes to search for individual solutions to complex family cases.  She has taken several cases on appeal to the Iowa Court of Appeals and the Iowa Supreme Court.  Some rulings are published in full, others are not reported in the North West Reporter.. Charlie Damschen is a Partner at Hamilton IP Law, initially joining the firm as an associate in 2008. Charlie earned his B.S. in Chemistry and Bachelor’s of Chemical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 2003. Charlie then worked as an engineer at Cargill before entering law school. Charlie earned his J.D. from The University of Iowa College of Law in 2007, with high distinction. Carolyn (“Dazi”) Russell Wallace was born and raised in Iowa City. She left to attend college in North Carolina, returned to Iowa City for law school, and began practicing at the firm in October 2013.. Carolyn maintains a general law practice that includes both transactional and litigation components. On the transactional side, Carolyn assists clients with estate planning, real estate matters, reviewing and negotiating contracts, and other general transactional issues.
