I have a strong belief the role of a family lawyer is to guide my clients through a process that is often complicated and stressful. Through my years of practice I have found the number one driving force behind the disputes is fear. Fear of the unknown has an incredibly powerful influence on both the parties. I feel it is important to advocate strongly on behalf of my clients, but part of that advocacy is a duty to redefine the family unit without destroying it. No two cases are ever the same and as such I carefully evaluate each and every individual's goals. I take an educational approach because I respect my client's ability to partake in the process. While I do my best to see whether we can resolve the issues without taking them before a Judge, I understand there are some issues which require judicial determination.. In the event one of my cases proceeds to the point of trial I make absolutely certain the case and my client are fully prepared. I take a realistic and straight forward approach to the trial. In my opinion there are very few cases which require judicial intervention if an attorney genuinely understands the laws and is familiar with the particular Judge assigned to the case. However, this does not necessarily translate into the opponent taking a realistic stance on the issues and this is an unfortunate obstacle to resolution without a trial.. Whenever I am consulted for a legal problem I always encourage my potential clients to interview more than one attorney. Why? Because you should trust who you hire; you must feel confident in communicating the good and the bad facts of your position; and you must feel confident with their knowledge and ability to competently assist you. If your situation was not important, you would not be seeking legal counsel - make sure the person you hire respects this above all else or you are in for disappointment.

I grew up in Detroit in a family of lawyers.  I am the fourth generation of my family to attend law school at the University of Michigan.  I am honored to work in this noble profession, and nothing makes me happier then to see the look on a client's face when I am able to obtain a settlement or resolution of their legal problems.. When I am not working on behalf of my clients, you can find me with my family or on the golf course.

I don't take every case.  I try to take cases where there is evidence of innocence and/or a political reason that someone is being picked on by the Government.  I focus all of my time and energy on criminal defense.  I am influenced by being a graduate of Gerry Spence's highly prestigious Trial Lawyers College.  At this school in Wyoming I learned how to speak the truth to succeed for clients.  In addition to my law degree from UW Madison, I have two masters degrees: in counseling and political studies.  In law school I won the celebrated Sigman award for "scholarship, character, and contribution to the community."  I am proud of having an outstanding trial record and being known for my caring attitude towards clients.. I charge a flat fee for all of my services.  I do this so that you and I can both focus on what needs to be done to win your case without worrying about the hours involved.  When appropriate, I actually look forward to going to trial.  Being charged with a crime can be a frightening and humiliating experience, but I know that every person has done amazing things in their life and has the potential to do even better.  I take very seriously my opportunity to help you so that you can make the most of your life.. I created my firm with one goal in mind: to help everyday people and business owners solve any legal problems and issues that they may face.  My office is a full-service practice to help clients, their friends, and families.  I value all of the relationships I have built over my many years of serving the people of Southern Wisconsin.. I am an experienced attorney with over 39 years of experience in private practice in Wisconsin.  I have helped clients with a wide range of legal issues.  I have successfully helped clients achieve their  goals in Family Law, Criminal and Traffic Defense, and litigation in commercial and probate cases.. I also help people and business and real estate  owners solve their financial problems by way of collection, foreclosure defense, bankruptcy, both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, and eviction.. I can also help with estate planning, home and business purchases and sales, and personal injury, along with guardianship issues.. You may ask, how can one person do all of this, and do it well? It is from my many years of experience in Wisconsin Law, having dealt with these areas of law multiple times.. As a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelors' Degree in Finance, and a Law Degree, I feel privileged to serve our community, and look forward to helping you and your family.

I can call myself a family litigation specialist because I exclusively handle cases that affect your family. I differentiate myself from other attorneys in my communication and advocacy style.. CommunicationYou would be shocked to learn that most litigators are terrible communicators. Apparently, they do not return their clients’ phone calls, ignore emails, and fail to meet with their clients prior to the next court date. Their clients end up in life-changing litigation completely stressed out because they do not know the status of their case. I know this to be true because I have two types of clients. The first who meet with me prior to filing any lawsuit and want to do it right. The second who hired these other attorneys and are completely frustrated with their case.. I will never understand this trend because attorneys talk for a living so who are these practitioners talking to if not their own clients? I view myself as not just a counselor and advocate but as a stress-reducer. The best way to reduce a client’s stress is with robust and effective communication. You are not in court every week like I am. This may be your first and only appearance before a Judge. The best way to get you through this process as painless as possible is to make sure you know exactly what to expect, say, and do.. AdvocacyAt the end of the day, I’m going to get you court orders that affect your life, not mine. This is your case. I am a tool to get you from where you are to where you want to be. Afterwards, if you never want to see me again professionally – great – that’s the goal.. Because this is your case, children, finances, etc., I am not going to tell you what to do. Lazy and arrogant attorneys tell their clients what to accept as an outcome as if they alone know what is best for all situations. I’m going to tell you what I think is reasonable, what your Judge may do, and what could be your best and worst case scenario, but ultimately you will decide on where to compromise and which issue(s) to litigate.. The Twin PillarsThese twin pillars of my practice are meant to shift the focus away from the attorney and back on the client. Most attorneys (and, therefore, law firms) care far too much about themselves. They spend inordinate amounts of money on the flowers in their foyer (true story), what kind of car they drive, or who has the “better office.”. You know who doesn’t care about that stuff? Your children. Who else? The Judge of your case. In today’s technology-forward society, you may only physically go to your attorney’s office once or twice in the entire case.
