Mr. Allen was born and raised in the Seattle area.  He attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle where he played on the varsity Baseball and Football teams.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Santa Clara University in 1988, and earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Seattle University School of Law in 1992.  He was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1992.. Beginning in 1991, he served as a legal intern for the City of Kent, prosecuting criminal cases.  He had already tried fifteen jury trials bythe time he sat for the Bar Examination.  After passing the Washington State Bar Exam, he was hired as an Assistant City Attorney, and was promoted to the position of Chief Prosecutor in 1994.  In that position, he was responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases initiated by the City of Kent.  He also represented the City of Kent Police Department in several capacities, including civil asset forfeiture proceedings, and various legal advisements. He also represented the South King County Narcotics Task Force, advising them with respect to legal issues surrounding drug investigations, search warrants, and evidence gathering.. I frequently come into my clients' lives when they are at the end of their rope. The resiliency of the human spirit never ceases to impress me.. I see my role as first, helping clients first to determine their priorities clearly, second, developing a plan to achieve as many priorities as possible, and third, implementing the plan, with modifications as required as the case progresses.. Most cases, family or otherwise, settle. I can do that. But the most skilled negotiator always needs to have a "BATNA": a Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement.  For this reason, some cases go to trial. I can do that too.

I came to the family law arena reluctantly.  When I left law school 22 years ago, I swore I would never, ever, ever, ever do another dissolution.  Here, I am years later in a practice that deals with familys in every possible way.  In many ways, I am the only lawyer a person will have contact with in their lives.  I divorce them, do their pre-nuptial agreements, their annulments, their adoptions, their wills, thier probates..
