I was born and raised in Seattle but spent over a decade living back East, in Washington D.C., Boston, Providence, and southern Massachusets. I feel like I have various homes, and gives me good perspective. Every case and client truly is different. to use the cliche.. I've been fortunate to have been able to practice laws from a wide variety as a angles. First, as a criminal prosecutor, then in civil insurance defense, and now as a criminal defense lawyer, personal injury lawyer, and pro tem judge.. I have a lot of trial experience. I've tried over 200 cases, including over 150 jury trials. In the criminal justice and personal injury field, you have to be a good trial lawyer to be a really good lawyer. To get the best result, you have to be willing to try every case. In that sense, trials are the great equalizer in our system--it's where the lawyers truly stand out.. I love playing tennis and running, but probably my favorite activity is reading. I've been reading military and political history for years. Now I love pretty much anything non-fiction, especially history, law, and politics.

I was born and raised in New York City.   As the son of two immigrant parents I witnessed first-hand the struggles of acculturation and limited economic opportunities.  Upon graduating law school, I returned to New York and worked for a small boutique firm that specialized in employment based visas.  Later, I represented many Chinese asylum seekers before the Immigration Court in New York, not more than five blocks from where I was raised.  Talk about full-circle.. My wife and I returned to the Pacific Northwest in 2001.  Julian & Chin, LLP was started in February 2002.  It has been my privilege to be able to practice in this beautiful part of the world.  Our cases are primarily with CIS, the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals and U.S. Consulates and Embassies.

In addition to my service with the US Navy Family Advocacy Program, I have served as a criminal defense attorney, as a federal prosecutor, and as in-house counsel. I have also had the opportunity to represent both the government and individuals in over one hundred administrative hearings.. I graduated cum laude from Wayne State University School of Law in Detroit Michigan, I attended the Hague Academy of International Law in the Hague, Netherlands, I received a BA degree in Linguistics from the University of Michigan, and I am currently pursuing a MA degree in counseling psychology.. I continue to serve as an attorney in the US Navy Reserve where I provide legal counsel to mental health professionals employed by the United States.. Collaborative principles allow this to happen in a safe and respectful environment.. One benefit of resolving things outside of court is preservation of existing relationships. A therapist I know put it very well when she said that in a divorce, we end the relationship of husband/wife, but the relationships of mother/father/children continue. It is those relationships of father/mother/children that need to be protected to the extent possible even when the family is no longer going to be living together in a single home.. A second benefit is self-determination. Prior to joining the Riddell Williams, I spent a year interning for the in-house legal team at Walgreen Co.  I also worked as a judicial extern for Judge Thomas S. Zilly in Federal District Court.   Before applying to law school, I interned for U.S. Senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry in their Boston offices.  I worked in the Casework Division of both offices, which involved working with, and on behalf of, Massachusetts constituents to resolve issues with various federal offices and agencies.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, with a minor in Law, Societies, and Justice, from the University of Washington.  I then pursued my legal education at the Seattle University School of Law.. During law school, I received numerous accolades and honors.  I was a Presidential Law scholar, a member of the Moot Court Board, and an Associate Editor on the Seattle University Law Review.  I graduated cum laude.. In addition to my studies, I worked as a research assistant for Professor Gregory Silverman, a summer clerk in the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office, and a legal intern at the law firm of Marler Clark.. I have been published multiple times, including an article entitled Product Liability and Food in Washington State: What Constitutes Manufacturing?, published in the the Seattle University Law Review.  Additionally, I have engaged in advocacy work, helping to author a 2009 petition to the USDA that resulted in a change to federal law, enacting stricter safety standards for ground beef production.. I am currently run and manage ABF Law Firm.
