I have been a litigator for more almost 20 years. During that time, I have successfully handled a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including trials, arbitrations and mediations. Although my passion for oral advocacy makes me relish opportunities to be in court, I recognize that it is often in my clients' best interest to find creative, business-driven solutions to litigation problems.
I have an extensive litigation practice, with an emphasis on employment claims involving race, sex, religion and disability discrimination claims, wrongful discharge, and failure to accommodate. I have also handled a variety of wage and hour matters, including wage and hour class actions. My practice also involves the business side of employment matters, and I have litigated trade secret and non-compete claims.. In addition to my litigation background, much of my practice is dedicated to advising clients on how to best train their managers and employees, and identifying and helping to resolve workplace concerns as they arise. This includes but is not limited to helping clients navigate the ever changing landscape of federal, state and local leave laws.. I have presented on these and many other topics to clients individually and at legal seminars. I have also authored articles on many of these topics. I was previously the chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group for a large Seattle law firm. Additionally, I have my Yellow Belt certification in Legal Lean Sigma® and Project Management. I am proud to have received accolades from Chambers USA’s Guide to America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, which listed me as a “Leading Lawyer,” and as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers® magazine.. All of this experience has equipped me to provide clients the very best in legal services. I look forward to assisting you with your legal needs.
I have an excellent trial team If you have been been physically or mentally injured or both We will work personally with you to regain your life, your soul and obtain all the money we can to get you justice
I have a solo practice based in West Seattle, where I have lived for more than 20 years. My practice focuses primarily on business law and the needs of business owners.. My prior work experience gives me useful insight into the needs of business owners, having worked in a variety of small businesses including restaurants, a personal services business, veterinary clinics, and nonprofit organizations.. I enjoy developing long-term relationships with my clients so they know that they can depend on me to provide reliable, timely and affordable assistance.. I offer a free 30 minute call or meeting so we can get to know each other and figure out how we can work together to protect the business you love. We can meet via telephone or at your office, so that you don’t have to take a chunk out of your busy day. I offer responsiveness, a quick turnaround, and reasonable rates.
I have a personal injury practice. Because I am an avid cyclist, the majority of my practice has been devoted to representing cyclists injured by negligent motorists, defective roads and defective equipment. I am a member of the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, Cascade Bicycle Club and the Bicycle Alliance of Washington. I am a daily bike commuter and I ride 5000+ miles per year. I am a sponsor/member of the ByrneInvent/Jet City Velo Cycling team.
I have a passion for representing victims of employment discrimination in pursuit of justice for each. I have been and continue to be a zealous advocate for my clients. With my team of four lawyers and a paralegal, my firm has been very successful in litigating and in settling big, medium and small dollar employment law cases. We are smart, practical, and approachable. I have been described by defense lawyers as the one that employer's lawyers hate to come up against - "charming but deadly." My 50-years of experience give me a clear vision of how best to pursue a client's case to a righteous conclusion. We are fierce advocates and wise counselors.
I have a passion for real estate. And because of what I have learned pursuing that passion as an attorney and as a real estate broker, I believe there is room for improvement in the real estate industry. I tried to lead the way as a real estate broker - but apparently I was a little ahead of my time.. But my law practice continues to thrive. Today, it is sole focus. For more than a decade, I've worked to improve quality and reduce costs in the real estate business. These days that takes the form of FSBO or For Sale By Owner Sellers, and savvy buyers who use a lawyer instead of an agent to save a ton of money.. I am also still a traditional real estate attorney. I am 100% committed to identifying, protecting, and advancing my clients' interests. And I never, ever forget that sometimes an attorney is more expensive than the solution. Where that's the case, I probably won't agree to represent you. That's how I practice.
I have a broad range of family law experience and focus my practice on complex divorce cases involving the protection and distribution of significant assets. In any situation, I never forget that the outcome of a case will have a lifelong impact on my clients and their family members. My clients trust that I will do everything I can to protect their immediate and long-term interests, to get the results they need to move forward with their lives.
I have 35 years of law practice experience, many of those advising and representing clients in matters related to their real estate or business interests. My clients engage in business in all parts of Western Washington, including all of the Puget Sound region, with offices in cities such as Seattle, Bellevue and Tacoma. I represent larger, regional companies with extensive real estate investments, as well as family businesses. By including document drafting and litigation in my practice, I have acquired a broader perspective on the needs of my clients, making me a better drafter and litigator. My experience also provides me with the skills needed for effective mediation and arbitration of real estate and business disputes.
I grew up working in my family's construction company. I received by engineering training and Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point. After serving overseas for almost five years I came home to attend the University of Michigan Law School. I moved to Seattle in 1978 and started my practice, focusing almost exclusively on construction project issues. I became an construction arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association in 1980 and became a member of dispute resolution boards for large projects beginning in 1993. I now head the Kennewick, WA office of Schlemlein Goetz Fick & Scruggs, PLLC, continuing to focus my practice on construction project issues.
I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, but I have lived in Seattle since 1989. I graduated with honors from the University of Washington School of Law in 2000. After a short clerkship in the Washington Court of Appeals, I joined Scott, Kinney & Mack, PLLC, and practiced there for fifteen years. In April 2016, I joined Emerald Law Group.. My primary practice areas are personal injury, primarily motor vehicle accidents, premises liability (slip-and-fall and trip-and-fall injuries), dog bites, and childhood sex abuse. One of the things I most love about my job is getting to know all sorts of people and learning their stories.
I grew up in Michigan and knew I would go to law school after reading a biography of famous Chicago defense attorney Clarence Darrow. His stands for union workers, against the death penalty and his work on behalf of criminal defendants made him my hero.. After getting my undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan I went to law school at the University of Illinois. Following that I clerked for two different judges on the Illinois Supreme Court, Justice Stamos and Justice Miller, and learned a great deal of how the law works in real life.. I moved to Chicago, home of Clarence Darrow, and got my dream job--a public defender at the Cook County Public Defender's Office. I eventually tried over 50 jury cases, winning multiple cases from DUI's to drug, burglary, rape and murder trials. I was offered a position at a leading progressive law firm--People's Law Office-- that worked for innocent clients and sued the Chicago Police Department for false arrest, police brutality and wrongful convictions. I eventually made partner and was successful in getting an innocent client--Aaron Patterson--off death row after he was pardoned by Governor Ryan, following a successful appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court granting him a new hearing.. I was also able to free an innocent man from serving a 48 year prison sentence for a murder he did not commit by showing that he had been framed by a Chicago Police Officer. His name was Rene Castillo and the case was People v. Castillo, 89 CR 2461.. In 2002 I moved to Seattle to take a job as an Assistant Federal Public Defender. I worked there for six years, winning a rape trial, and successfully getting a number of cases dismissed.. In 2008 I left the Federal Defender's Office to concentrate on my own practice in Federal Court, representing people in trials and appeals to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Since opening my own law firm I have had success in getting one federal charge dismissed completely (US v. Tho Le, CR12-00041RSL) as well as getting a number of charges reduced and sentences greatly lower then called for by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
I greatly enjoy helping my clients navigate their legal needs. I make an effort to eduate people about their case and other legal matters as much as possible. I am a big believer in educating people so that they are able to assist themselves and most importantly know their legal rights.. When I am not helping clients I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and participating in triathlons.
I greatly enjoy and cultivate a general business and personal injury practice, with long term client relationships going back to 1979, when I relocated from New York City to Seattle (where I am a native). I purposefully maintain a small law firm practice, with an emphasis on providing excellent service, so that we can hopefully continue a mutually profitable relationship in the future.

I have been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995, and for 2010 and 2019 that publication selected me as Seattle-area Family Law "Lawyer of the Year." I have made 70-plus presentations at education seminars for other divorce lawyers, on topics such as business valuation, divorce taxation and complex property divisions.
I graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1993, after working as a ranch hand, baker and mental health counselor.. I was fortunate to spend twenty-two years with the Seattle law firm MacDonald Hoague & Bayless - a wonderful place that truly worked to advance justice and goodness. In 2015, I formed a firm to specialize in my favorite practice area -- helping people who have been denied short-term disability and long-term disability benefits. Most of these cases fall under the federal law known as "ERISA." My practice is now 100% devoted to this area of the law. I like it.. I litigate against the major disability insurance companies, including Prudential, Hartford, New York Life, CIGNA, Unum, Aetna and others. I represent people with a broad range of disabling conditions. For more information about my ERISA disability benefits practice, please visit my website, easily found with any search engine.
I graduated from the UW in 1977 and practiced accouting in Seattle, WA before heading off to law school. I am an inactive CPA. I attended the Universtity of San Francisco School of Law and worked for a large law firm in SF during my second and third years of law school. After graduating, I returned to Seattle to practice with my father, Carl Jonson, and my brother Mike. My father is no longer with us but Mike and I carry on the family tradition. We are third generation lawyers and we take the business very seriously. We have client relationships that date back to our firm's inception. My practice has narrowed over time and the majority of my work is now performed for water utilities located in Western and Central Washington.
I frequently come into my clients' lives when they are at the end of their rope. The resiliency of the human spirit never ceases to impress me.. I see my role as first, helping clients first to determine their priorities clearly, second, developing a plan to achieve as many priorities as possible, and third, implementing the plan, with modifications as required as the case progresses.. Most cases, family or otherwise, settle. I can do that. But the most skilled negotiator always needs to have a "BATNA": a Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement. For this reason, some cases go to trial. I can do that too.
I founded the Nolan Lim Law Firm because I grew frustrated seeing companies oppress and exploit ethical workers who work hard, stand up for equality, and legal rights in the workplace. In my many years as an employment attorney I witnessed many times both personally and professionally where “anti-harassment policies”, and “diversity and inclusion”, are just words that corporations and government institutions use to mask discrimination and retaliation against those who stand up for compliance with workplace laws.. My clients drive me forward every day. It’s an honor to help victims of illegal workplace activity to move past their trauma and have their dignity and self-worth restored, while holding the offending employer accountable.”. -Nolan Lim, Firm Founder and Lead Attorney
I focus on estate and trust litigation as well as guardianship and vulnerable adult issues. I am particularly interested and passionate about elder issues. I also offer a thoughtful approach to estate planning, much informed by my litigation practice.

My recent trial success includes representation of General Metals of Tacoma, Inc in a contract dispute with its general contractor, Bean Environmental, LLC, on an environmental dredging project to remediate the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Washington. Following a five week jury trial in the United States District Court in the Western District of Washington, the jury awarded my client $6.37 million for damages sustained as a result of the general contractor’s failure to perform its contract obligations. The decision in General Metals of Tacoma, Inc. v. Bean Environmental, LLC was upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in November, 2008..
