When I began to practice law in 1972 I never expected that the focus of my work would be the area of Domestic Relations. Time and many satisfied clients have proved this to be my area of concentration. While this is a very difficult time for most clients, we do our best to help them through this process in a positive way. Sometimes the best advice we can provide is an honest and complete appraisal of the client's situation. Promising unrealistic results or encouraging wasteful and spiteful litigation is not consistent with our firm philosophy. While marriages may end, families continue. We do not serve our clients if at the same time we injure their family.. Twenty years ago, with the help of two mental health professionals, I began a comprehensive divorce mediation business. Like many good ideas, the time was not right, and people were afraid of this new and unfamiliar process for resolving disputes.. Twenty years have passed and the time is now right. I have been providing mediation services to parties and their lawyers for the past two years. Approximately 1/3 of my practice now consists of mediation and arbitration services. The ability of parties and their attorneys to reach resolution when properly facilitated is astounding. More than 95% of the matters which have been submitted to me for mediation have resulted in the parties reaching an agreement which addresses their needs and interests.. In consultation with the parties? attorneys, I am able to design a process which will promote the likelihood of resolution. This process can be facilitative or evaluative or a combination of each. The goal is to encourage the parties to explore alternatives that allow them to successfully achieve their goals.. The mediation process allows for candor and creativity in an interest focused environment which provides safety and confidentiality. There is every reason to believe spouses can assist one another in achieving their goals if, at the same time, they are able to achieve their own goals.

My practice focuses on real estate development and general business and corporate matters.. I graduated from Marquette University Law School, where I served as Editor in Chief and Managing Editor of the Marquette Intellectual Property Law Review. I earned my bachelors degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano, reading for fun, catching up on TV, and spending time with my extended family.
My practice focuses on estate planning, family business succession planning, retirement planning, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and probate and trust administration. I also represent fiduciaries and beneficiaries in estate and trust disputes, and advise clients on a wide variety of estate, gift and income tax issues.. I take the time to get to know my clients, allowing me to develop highly individualized solutions for them.. My clients include owners of family controlled companies, professionals, individuals, trusts and estates, primarily in the Waukesha, Madison, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin areas.
My practice focuses on business and estate planning. I believe it is important to have a strong attorney/client relationship that is based on open communication, respect, and efficiancy. I take the time to meet with my clients, discuss options, and choose the appropriate course of action to meet the clients individual needs.
My legal career began in 1984 in the areas of general practice and litigation. Through the years my interest, energy and skills have led me to concentrate on family law which is now my sole area of practice. Since 2001 I have been a member of the Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin and can offer the collaborative divorce process to my clients. I also offer services as a mediator, an arbitrator, a special master and Guardian ad Litem.. I believe that as a family lawyer it is my role to guide people through what is one of the most traumatic and stressful times of their life. I work hard to maintain stability and consistency for the children when they are separated into two households. I listen to my clients and advise them on what the law is while giving them options so they may assess for themselves the impact of their decisions on their future and their family.
My first trial after graduating law school was a homicide case and we achieved a not guilty verdict. Since then, our firm has achieved innumerable dismissials and acquittals. We have won cases that seem unwinable. We have won cases when clients have confessed to crimes. In one very remarkable case, one of our clients confessed to a crime and pleaded guilty with another lawyer. After coming to us for a second opinion we were able to withdraw his guilty plea, go to trial, and convince a jury of his innocence despite the fact that he confessed his guilt to the police.. We have won every type of case you could imagine. Many of our wins occur even before charges are issued - countless times we are hired immediately after a client is arrested and we are often able to convince prosecutors to drop or reduce the case before charges are ever issued. When we can't beat the case, we are usually able to negotiate a favorable settlement. Myself, and my team, work tirelessly to protect your rights. We take what we do seriously, because lives and freedom are at stake. When you read our reviews you are reading real life stories of people who have had their lives changed for the better, because of their contact with our firm.. I have spent my life working for the underdog and the less fortunate. I come from humble blue-collar roots. I spent ten years driving garbage truck, putting myself through college and law school. During law school, I moved to East Africa and spent a summer representing war crime victims in Eritrea. After law school I have spent every minute of my professional career representing my clients with dilgence and care. If you choose to hire me as your lawyer, you will receive my unwavering committment to handle your case with extraordinary effort.
My areas of practice are in litigation-civil rights/municipal and employment, and I have practiced at all levels in both state and federal court.. I grew up just outside Madison, Wisconsin and I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After completing my studies at the UW, I was accepted into the Hansard Scholars program and I moved to London where I served as an intern in the British Parliament. After fulfilling a bucketlist goal of mine to travel Europe, I headed to Milwaukee to enroll at Marquette University Law School.. My years in law school were some of the most rewarding-and sometimes stressful-years of my life. Not only did I learn the true definitions of hard-work and critical thinking, but I also gained my independence and the confidence to assert myself through both writing and oral advocacy. While at Marquette, I served on the Marquette Law Review. I also competed in the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition in California, where I recieved an award for the competition's third-best respondent's brief. I also served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Dennis P. Moroney and interned in the legal department at Kohler Co.. I now live in Milwaukee, although I travel back to Madison often. I love college basketball and football (go Badgers!) and the NFL (go Packers!). I also enjoy traveling as much as I can, reading and writing, and spending time with family and friends.

I vigorously work towards positive outcomes for my clients. There are no guarantees in the legal world, but I will do the work necessary to achieve your goals and remove uncertainty from the equation. Whether you have been injured, sued, or have a business related matter, please contact me today and I will make sure you are on the right track.. Lately I have been able to help a number of buyers and sellers of real estate avoid real estate commissions and successfully sell or purchase a property. If you are thinking of going without a broker, I am would be more than happy to assist in your transaction.
I represent clients facing serious felony and misdemeanor charges. Throughout my career, I have obtained numerous reductions in charges and outright dismissals. Criminal law is more than just accepting the State's plea deal.. Criminal charges are serious and can have life altering consequences if convicted. A criminal conviction can take away your ability to drive a vehicle, prevent you from owning a firearm, restrict employment, and land you in prison or jail. Criminal convictions also carry steep fines that can be financially devastating to you and your family.. Oftentimes, clients hire me during the investigation stage of their case before charges are even brought and I have frequently prevented charges from being formally filed. In the event the State does proceed with formal charges, I will investigate your case fully and discuss with you all possible defense options to give you the best opportunity for success.
I pride myself as being a versatile lawyer that can provide you with comprehensive and diligent legal representation. Since starting at the firm, I have handled cases in worker’s compensation, personal injury, family law, landlord/tenant rights, real estate transactions, estate planning, lemon law, small claims and civil litigation. I am also an experienced legal writer and researcher, having interned for the District IV Court of Appeals in Madison. In looking for lawyers, experience working for a court is always a bonus for several reasons - your lawyer will know what judges look for and perhaps more importantly, he or she will know what judges dislike, so that your case gets the fair chance it deserves.. I graduated early from the University of Wisconsin Law School, receiving the top mark in Judge Charles Dykman’s Wisconsin Negligence course. I also received a scholarship from the Wisconsin Association of Workers Compensation Attorneys and led my fellow law students as a director of a pro bono legal organization and a member of the Christian Legal Society. My undergraduate degree, also from UW-Madison, graduating in the top 7% of my class is in Computer Engineering with a second major in Computer Science. I find that having a background as a complex problem solver makes me uniquely suited to tackle your worst legal problems and it is part of why I love to do what I do.. In my spare time, I love traveling with my wife and enjoying the outdoors, including backpacking, golfing and just getting out on the water. I am also an avid Wisconsin sports fan – whether it’s the Packers, Brewers, Badgers or Bucks.
