I practice in the areas of family law, estate planning, and business law.  Please call to discuss your needs.  Representation is offered on an hourly, limited scope or full retainer basis, depending upon your needs.. By way of more information, I became interested in law as a child.  My grandfather  nurtured my desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. He pointed me to the legal profession, which he said presented the greatest opportunity to apply hard work, integrity and compassion to people in need. Over the years of practicing law, I have found that to be true on a daily basis. In this profession, we see both the best and worst of things that life can bring, and I strive to truly listen to my clients, to be empathetic to them, and to educate them about options and consequences. I believe being an advocate is one of the greatest privileges there is, and I am very honored to navigate my clients through difficult and very important times in their lives.. I started practicing law in 2000, litigating contract and complex tort cases in State and Federal trial and appellate courts. I most enjoyed working with children and families and their legal needs, so in 2009, I opened my own private practice to focus on three areas of the law: family matters (divorce, legal separation, paternity, post-judgment matters and the collaborative process); estate planning (wills, trusts, and incapacitation planning); and business law (business formation, contract creation and litigation of disputes). In March of 2016, I was asked to join Phillips & Gemignani, LLC, and I continue to focus on those three areas.. When I am not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children and staying active by volunteering in school, extracurricular activities and other community organizations. My oldest daughter, Abby, was born with hearing loss, and I am fortunate to work with some of the organizations that have helped us along the way. Abby has made me fully appreciate that challenges are opportunities to become more than what we are and to move outside of ourselves to help others.. I was a Burke Scholar at Marquette University, whereby I was able to volunteer hundreds of hours each school year in Southeastern Wisconsin communities (in healthcare, community centers, children's organizations, hunger/homelessness groups, churches, jails, justice centers, etc.).  I graduated magna cum laude with a double major in writing-intensive English and in History. I was fortunate to be named Marquette University’s College of Arts and Sciences’ Outstanding Senior and the Association of Marquette University Women’s Senior Women Ignation Leader. I was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Sigma Nu and Sigma Tau Delta Honor Societies.. My law degree is from Marquette University Law School, where I was a law scholar and where I was awarded CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in Business Law, Elder Law and Juvenile Law.. I have been fortunate to become a member of the Collaborative Family Law Council of Wisconsin, the Society of Family Lawyers and the Waukesha Bar Association, and I continue to volunteer as much as I can, including with the Women’s Center in Waukesha, the Christmas Clearing Council, SC Waukesha, the Legal Aid Society, Rose Glen PTO, and the school district (I am a representative of the Waukesha Superintendent Advisory Council).. I would be honored to be your attorney.

I practice as a criminal defense lawyer because I believe that the rights of all depend on the rights of one. As a result, each person's rights must be vigilantly safeguarded against the powers of the state. An unfettered state results in the very tyranny our Founding Fathers sought to protect us against with the Constitution.. I have devoted the last 30 years of my life as an attorney to this pursuit. With the law firm of Walden & Schuster, S.C., I continue to do so for clients just like you throughout the Waukesha County area in a wide variety of criminal defense matters, including DUI, domestic violence, juvenile cases and drug-related charges.. In doing so, I follow a baseline philosophy: effective legal representation depends on individualized services. For that reason, I have intentionally structured my legal practice in order to enable me to focus on you, the individual.. My focus on each individual client enables me to learn the facts that can determine the outcome of your case. It also means I can help you understand the legal options available in your particular case so you can choose from them intelligently and with confidence whatever the circumstances. Your confidence will stem from the knowledge that my experience means I hold a legal judgment that has been tried and tested many, many times, often by situations very similar to the situation now facing you.

I have practiced family law for 18 years. I love the client contact, the problem solving, and the creative solutions that go into resolving complex family litigation. My practice is focused primarily in Waukesha and Milwaukee, but I do travel to the surrounding counties as clients need.. When I first began my legal career, I assisted clients in other matters besides family law. However, I now practice exclusively family law because of both the empathy I feel toward my clients and the unique set of interdisciplinary skills that family law practice requires. Each day is different. On Monday, I might negotiate a child custody agreement, relying on input from a court-appointed social worker and other child specialists to develop the best schedule that meets the developmental needs of a child, while also maximizing placement for both parents. On Tuesday, I could be discussing with an accountant how to appropriately value a closely-held family company. On Wednesday, I may be advocating for my client at a court hearing, presenting arguments to the judge on jurisdiction issues of an international child abduction case. On Thursday, I might spend time discussing retirement account planning for my client with his/her financial planner. And, on Friday, I may be sitting down with my client to develop a comprehensive agreement to resolve their case. Each day is different, and each client is different. I enjoy the ability to creatively problem-solve with my clients to develop a complex strategy to meet their goals and needs.. Outside of the office, I enjoy being active. From soccer (coaching and playing), to cycling, to kayaking, to skiing, to epic family vacations, I love spending time with my family experiencing all that the outdoors has to offer. When I can afford some quiet time at home, my time is often devoted to cooking, socializing with friends and family, searching for new and tasty whiskeys and wines, or pursuing my delusional childhood dream of becoming a world-class drummer for a famous rock band.... I followed my father's footsteps into the law.  As both a Lutheran pastor and a state public defender, he taught my sisters and I first-hand the importance of being a person folks can rely on during some of the hardest times of their lives.. When folks are facing the loss of their freedom, their job, or their family, it can be the scariest time of their lives.  They need a zealous attorney who will stand up for their rights and their dignity, whatever their background.  That is the type of Attorney my father taught me to be.. I am an experienced trial attorney and have a long history of successfully exposing illegal police searches and seizures.  I know how to hold the State to its burden at every stage of a criminal, right through appeals if necessary.. Prior to arriving at Marquette Law School, I attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and spent two semesters working as a Parliamentery Special Assistant in the palace of Westminster.. The youngest of four, I was the only one of my siblings born and raised exclusively in Wisconsin, mostly in a small town of Clintonville just West of Green Bay.  I grew up fishing and hunting, and still enjoy those things when I can can get time to do them.  However, I mostly stay in Southeastern Wisconsin now.. Beyond fighting felony cases in state and federal court, filing appeals, and representing parents in custody disputes, I try to spend time traveling with my husband at least a couple times per year.  We also try to see as many Brewers games at Miller Park as time allows.. Mostly, my time is spent helping my clients.  If you have any questions about how I can assist you or someone you care about in dealing with an issue anywhere in the state, please give me a call or stop by my firm's Waukesha office, conveniently located across from the County Courthouse.. We're here to help, when it matters most.

I devote 100% of my practice to civil litigation.  Dilligence and attention to detail are what set my work product apart from others. Over the course of the past six years, I have successfully resolved hundreds of personal injury cases. While most of those cases settle short of a trial or even a lawsuit, I have successfully litigated cases through trial - not every attorney can say that.. While attending Marquette University Law School and after graduation, I worked for Wisconsin's largest volume personal injury firm. After leaving that firm, I worked for a boutique personal injury firm in Milwaukee for three years, collecting millions of dollars for my clients.. I am a life long resident of Wisconsin and am an avid Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Marquette Golden Eagles fan.

Bricco shows her toughness. From Wisconsin Law Journal Up & Coming Lawyers 2014.. An attorney has to be tough to succeed in indigent defense.. The evidence shows that Katie Bricco, a Waukesha public defender, is tough. She runs marathons, triathlons and half-Ironman competitions, and she plays for the Brew City Bruisers roller derby team.. That toughness has translated to the courtroom, where, after just three years, Bricco has tried six cases. Noteworthy among them is State v. Ingram, a 2013 first-degree intentional homicide trial for which Bricco was co-counsel.. Waukesha County does not have many homicide trials, she said, so the case received a lot of media attention. In the case, Bricco gave an unusual opening statement, in which she portrayed the words and demeanor of a key prosecution witness so the jury would listen to his testimony with skepticism.. Her client was convicted, but Bricco said she learned a lot from the trial.. “We felt at the end of the trial,” she said, “that we presented the best case we could.”. In State v. Hessil, she tried the case by herself. Bricco’s client faced several charges, including misdemeanor resisting an officer.. Her client claimed the arresting officer was antagonistic during the encounter that led to the arrest. Bricco said she did some digging and learned that the officer had similar conduct problems with a previous police department.. She was unable to get that evidence introduced at trial, but the jury still acquitted her client on the most serious charge and found him guilty of two lesser charges. At sentencing, the court revisited the topic of the officer’s behavior and imposed only community service.. “It was the first time I heard ‘not guilty’ when a jury came back, which was a great feeling,” Bricco said. “But also, we got validation. There was an acknowledgement that the officer made poor decisions, and my client made amends through community service and his ability to work. The right thing happened.”. Bricco’s work in the courtroom has left an impression on Judge Donald Hassin.. “She’s an outstanding young lawyer,” he said. “She’s prepared. She’s on time. She knows what she wants to do. And she goes about her business in a very professional manner.”

Brad primarily focuses his practice on criminal defense and criminal appeals. As a former prosecutor specializing in domestic violence, sexual assault, and crimes against children, Brad gained invaluable experience and a deep understanding of the investigative and strategic decision-making processes that come before a criminal charge is ever issued. Brad has seen first-hand the ways in which prosecutors prioritize convictions and quick case resolutions, often at the expense of a thorough, unbiased search for truth and justice. To a career prosecutor, an individual defendant is nothing but the sum of his criminal history.. In addition to his criminal practice, Brad frequently represents victims of domestic violence, stalking, and harassment in seeking restraining orders and injunctions, and defending against retaliatory cross-injunctions.. Brad’s background has taught him that each client is unique and that a holistic and individualized approach to every case is the best way to achieve positive results. No two situations are the same, even for clients who have similar previous convictions. Brad recognizes the importance of knowing the details and nuances of every case and the personal life circumstances of every client. Without these, it is impossible to provide high quality, client-centered representation.
