Unlike many of my law school peers, I didn’t always know I wanted to be a lawyer. While attending high school in Minnesota, I was a bit of an entrepreneur, starting and running my own car detailing and lawn care businesses. When I went back to my home state of Wisconsin to start my undergraduate studies at UW-Madison, I followed in my brother’s footsteps and initially sought an engineering degree. After a year and a half of studying, however, I realized my true passions lied with the elective courses I took in psychology and social sciences; the classes that challenged me to see the world through different lenses and think creatively to find solutions to difficult problems. I immediately changed my major, pursued a career in the law, and never looked back.. I represent my clients ethically, analytically, and empathetically. I understand when meeting a prospective client, it is often during the worst moments of his or her life, and I don’t take that lightly. Trials are rarely the desired answer, but in some cases, they are the only appropriate solution. That is why I focused my attention both during and after law school on litigation, client counseling, and negotiation, to ensure I had the tools necessary to best help my clients achieve their goals. When I moved to Iowa with my wife and our children in 2016, I joined a local general practice firm and continued to cultivate my skills in civil litigation and negotiation, representing clients in a variety of matters, from contempt proceedings to breaches of corporate fiduciary duty claims.. My extensive experience in a wide array of legal areas, together with my practical, real-world knowledge and creative approach, gives my clients the trust that their matters are skillfully handled by a dedicated attorney who not only understands their legal needs, but has their best interests in mind. Since beginning my legal practice as an associate with a general practice firm in Eastern Iowa in 2006, I have particularly appreciated the complex logistical, emotional, and legal needs that clients face when they become involved in family law litigation. Over the past many years, I have enjoyed representing clients in a wide range of family law matters including dissolutions of marriage, custody proceedings, modifications, terminations of parental rights, adoptions, child support reviews, mediations, civil domestic abuse cases, and appeals. Having served as a family law mediator since 2010, mediation has become one of my favorite aspects of family law practice, as it provides parties with the opportunity to avoid the need for further litigation, and it imparts parties with more power to control the outcome of their cases in a mutually agreeable and satisfying manner.. Working as an attorney is a second career for me. After receiving a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Manitoba in Canada, where I grew up, I attended graduate school and received my M.A. in Philosophy from Duke University. I relocated to Cedar Rapids when my husband began teaching at Coe College. For many years, I taught classes in Philosophy at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College as an adjunct professor. In 2006, I graduated with my J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and began practicing as an attorney. I also enjoyed the great privilege of serving as a law clerk to the local judges of the Sixth Judicial District of Iowa in 2008 and 2009, assisting with legal research and with the drafting of rulings and orders.. I was born and raised in Ashland, WI, graduating high school in 2001 where was active in many activities.  I went to college at St. Norbert College and graduated earned my BA, summa cum laude, in 2005.  I went to Marquette University Law School and graduated with my Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, in 2008 finishing ranked 3rd in my class.  While in law school, I worked at two of the top firms in Wisconsin, Hupy and Abraham and von Briesen & Roper.  I also interned for a federal judge, the Hon.
