I help clients and individuals to protect and defend their rights in the Metro Detroit Area. I founded Schmidt Law Services to be able to work with individuals who find themselves in hard times. I know that most of the time, lawyers see clients during their darkest hours. It's my job to help those clients to address their concerns and find a resolution that meets their needs. Because I know each case is different, I make sure to stay on top of changes in the law and, when necessary, push to make them. Our practice centers on representing people in domestic relations matters, for issues such as termination of marriage by divorce or dissolution, child support, spousal support, allocation of parental rights and responsibilities (custody) and parenting time (visitation), including matters for people who have never married but have children and property together. We serve grandparents and other relatives seeking legal custody or visitation. We also provide planning services for people who need antenuptial (premarital) or cohabitation agreements, powers of attorney for health care, partnership agreements, wills and other estate-planning documents.. I did practice law as a solo attorney for 30 years, and started a lawfirm in 2014, all in Akron, Ohio. We serve clients in "real people" life situations, seeking to make bad situations a little better for them. Family law practice can be draining and demanding work (which sometimes makes me rethink that whole life plan thing, but sometimes a client will write something very uplifting and affirming as this one recently did: <<Thank you for all your help, but primarily for your willingness to listen, that meant so much to me.>> That will keep me going for a while now. Smile), but also can be rewarding in knowing that we helped someone through a bad situation, even by a little.. Our clients have also contributed very rewarding reviews on , and we are grateful to have been given an opportunity to serve them.. We moved our office to the City of Green mid-May 2018, and serve people in Summit and Stark County, Ohio courts.

Firm: Skidmore & Associates Co.

The Akron law firm of Skidmore & Associates has had an AV Martindale-Hubbell peer rating [highest ethical standards/highest professional ability] for decades. I am the middle son of firm founder Akron attorney Archie W. Skidmore. My father has been practicing law since 1955. He is 92 years old and still comes to work every day. I have an older brother Brian and younger brother Thomas also Akron attorneys. My brothers and I were born and raised in Akron, Ohio. We all attended universities and colleges out-of-town, but all of us returned to Akron to practice law. An old high school friend Spiros Vasilatos,Jr. joined the law firm in the mid-1980s. I am a family law attorney practicing since 1989. As a law firm, we have a cohesive, cerebral, ethical approach to the practice of law-identify legal problems and solve them! I aspire to represent my clients zealously and attempt to bring civility and professionaiism to the divorce or dissolution process.. My philosophy: Ending a marital relationship will be the hardest experience a spouse will have in a lifetime, especially when children are involved. The ending of a relationship should be mourned, however, the process does not have to descend spiraling down ultimately ending in the destruction of all relationships and bonds between mother, father, and children. Mom and dad may not be wife and husband anymore, but they will always remain mother and father to their children. The family unit, albeit divided, does not have to be destroyed. It is absolutely necessary that parental family bonds survive. You can taper future bitterness at future children's events [graduations, weddings, grandchildren], by how you conduct yourself during the divorce process.. The 'why' and 'how'?: I view the divorce process as a "new beginning"! After a spouse is involved in a divorce it is natural to be emotionally wounded and bruised. It will take time to get past the emotional trauma -but you will get past this difficult time! Each spouse gives up individual charactersitics to form a matrimonial union, and it can be devastating when the relationship and dreams fail. If a relationship cannot be reconciled, divorce is an opportunity for a spouse to return to an identity they used to have before becoming married. A divorced spouse has the chance to regain the individuality and independence they once had, that they rightfully gave up for marriage. A divorced spouse can go back in time and become the individual they once were the day before they were married. You can become you again! So divorce can have a silver lining -for every end, there is a new beginning!. I try to guide and reinforce a client's new quest for individualism, independence, and self-improvement! Believe it or not, divorce is an opportunity to get better as a person. I tell my clients to have the strength and morality enough to cut off the chain of hate and toxicity toward the other spouse. Hate distorts the personality of the hater. Venting hate toward the other spouse is damaging toward the other spouse, but, it is even more ruinous to the person who hates. The more you hate the other, the more you are thinking of them and not yourself. When one hates the other spouse ,it delays one's own "new beginning". If you continue to hate the other spouse, you begin to do irrational things distorting your own vision. For the spouse who hates, beautiful becomes ugly and ugly becomes beautiful. The true becomes false and the false becomes true. Hate causes a spouse to lose all objectivity. You cannot concentrate on the math of divorce, if you continue to hate the other spouse.  Hate destroys the very structure of the personalty of the hater. By cutting off the cycle of hate toward the other spouse, you begin rebuilding your own self-confidence, self-reliance, individuality and independence. You become emotionally redemptive and rejuvenated! You can start a new life. Future bitterness at life events of your children will taper. You become a better parent to your children! It is time to start a new beginning! When this is discovered you will be able to make an old world new again!

I'm from Beaver County, PA, and specifically Aliquippa.  Born and raised there. The whole area was blue collar and proud.  It was a shot and a beer kind of town. I can also say I am proud to have been raised there, and in those days I thought Aliquippa was the center of the world.  The J&L Steel Mill was pumping out steel and the related businesses were booming.  However, due to meeting the right person, the love of my life and present wife, Dawn, I moved from western PA so she could pursue her dreams on the stages of Broadway.  New York was a giant, crazy and busy city, but it was also a fun place to live.  New Yorkers in a sense were much like western PA people, in that they were tough but friendly.  It wasn't hard to strike up a conversation on the subway or in the bar.  Either way, Dawn's career took us from New York to Las Vegas in 1993.  What a change.  But, we liked Las Vegas enough to essentially call it home since 1993.. I grew up with the influence that education was the key to success.  My father, his two brothers, my two brothers, and several cousins are doctors.  They were all influenced the same way, and it all started with my grandparents who were immigrants with little education.  My grandparents knew hard work, but thought education would lead to a more successful and stable future.  As for me, I was not cut out for medicine, and like 3 of my other cousins, I choose law school.  But, I first had a career before law school, working in the medical field, wherein I ran a mobile breast cancer screening business before I got married.  Tri-State Mobile Mammography was a business that took its equipment to businesses that employed a lot of women and set up on-site for their convenience.  I was the business manager and my father the licensed physician who oversaw the medical aspect of the business.  After getting married, I left the business because I moved from Aliquippa. Eventually I ended up in law school in Los Angeles after my wife's gig in Las Vegas ended in late 1997.  I went to law school at Southwestern University School of Law and graduated in the top 15% of my class.  My first child, a boy, was born during my first year of law school and that, at least, doubled my work load.  But, it was worth every second.  Either way, after law school the family moved back to the New York area and I passed the bar exam in both New Jersey and New York. I worked in New Jersey for a year for a small firm doing mostly contract work and collections, but the family moved again after 1 year (too cold after 8 years out west) and we went back to Las Vegas in May 2001.  Another half year later and I passed the Nevada Bar exam and was a licensed attorney in the State of Nevada.. My career in Las Vegas started with the Christensen Law Firm, where I primarily handled plaintiff's personal injury cases. In late 2003, for personal reasons I left the firm and started my own practice, the Zernich Law Office. From 2003 until 2017, the Zernich Law Office grew to a small firm of 7 employees and we handled mostly family law cases, but I also kept up with the personal injury cases. My experience includes litigation and negotiation, motions, arbitrations, settlement conferences and trials and the representation of thousands of clients. I am confident to handle cases in all areas of both family law and personal injury. I am also interested in taking criminal law cases. Presently I work at the Roberts Stoffel Family Law Group with three of the best other attorney’s that I know.. I find being a lawyer very interesting, challenging but fun, sometimes frustrating, but always rewarding. I take my job very serious. Being a lawyer is a profession and I treat it that way. And, other than my family of 5, my work is the most important part of my life. But I do have a life outside of the courtroom and the office. For 13 years I've assisted my boy’s youth wrestling club or high school team and traveled with my 2 sons all over the country to wrestling tournaments. I often traveled with other youth wrestlers, taking them with me to tournaments in a used motor home that I purchased for that very purpose. I have one son left in high school, a State Champ wrestler with very good grades, and my older son is on the Dean's List at the University of Nevada Reno studying to be a doctor. My daughter, also in high school enjoys playing tennis and softball, and of course, keeping up her grades. My wife and I enjoy spending time together having a glass of wine, a bite to eat, or entertaining at our house. We can also be found a couple of times a week at the local gym or walking the Black Mountain hill for some exercise. Of course, this editorial wouldn't be complete if I didn't tell everyone that my family also includes four dogs, two cats, and seven chickens.. I hope to hear from you should you need a lawyer in the area of Family Law or if you are injured due to the negligence of another or need a lawyer after being charged with a crime.
