Since beginning my legal practice as an associate with a general practice firm in Eastern Iowa in 2006, I have particularly appreciated the complex logistical, emotional, and legal needs that clients face when they become involved in family law litigation. Over the past many years, I have enjoyed representing clients in a wide range of family law matters including dissolutions of marriage, custody proceedings, modifications, terminations of parental rights, adoptions, child support reviews, mediations, civil domestic abuse cases, and appeals. I have had the privilege of representing clients in counties throughout Southeastern Iowa, including Linn, Johnson, Benton, Iowa, Tama, Washington, Keokuk, and Scott counties. I have also helped clients with needs such as the drafting of prenuptial agreements and Qualified Domestic Relations Orders. Having served as a family law mediator since 2010, mediation has become one of my favorite aspects of family law practice, as it provides parties with the opportunity to avoid the need for further litigation, and it imparts parties with more power to control the outcome of their cases in a mutually agreeable and satisfying manner.. Working as an attorney is a second career for me. After receiving a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Manitoba in Canada, where I grew up, I attended graduate school and received my M.A. in Philosophy from Duke University. I relocated to Cedar Rapids when my husband began teaching at Coe College. For many years, I taught classes in Philosophy at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College as an adjunct professor. In 2006, I graduated with my J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and began practicing as an attorney. I also enjoyed the great privilege of serving as a law clerk to the local judges of the Sixth Judicial District of Iowa in 2008 and 2009, assisting with legal research and with the drafting of rulings and orders.. Having lived in Cedar Rapids for over 25 years, this community has grown to be my home. For many years, I volunteered in the Cedar Rapids Community Schools, and I truly appreciate all that this area has to offer.
Unlike many of my law school peers, I didn’t always know I wanted to be a lawyer. While attending high school in Minnesota, I was a bit of an entrepreneur, starting and running my own car detailing and lawn care businesses. When I went back to my home state of Wisconsin to start my undergraduate studies at UW-Madison, I followed in my brother’s footsteps and initially sought an engineering degree. After a year and a half of studying, however, I realized my true passions lied with the elective courses I took in psychology and social sciences; the classes that challenged me to see the world through different lenses and think creatively to find solutions to difficult problems. I immediately changed my major, pursued a career in the law, and never looked back.. I represent my clients ethically, analytically, and empathetically. I understand when meeting a prospective client, it is often during the worst moments of his or her life, and I don’t take that lightly. Trials are rarely the desired answer, but in some cases, they are the only appropriate solution. That is why I focused my attention both during and after law school on litigation, client counseling, and negotiation, to ensure I had the tools necessary to best help my clients achieve their goals. When I moved to Iowa with my wife and our children in 2016, I joined a local general practice firm and continued to cultivate my skills in civil litigation and negotiation, representing clients in a variety of matters, from contempt proceedings to breaches of corporate fiduciary duty claims.. My extensive experience in a wide array of legal areas, together with my practical, real-world knowledge and creative approach, gives my clients the trust that their matters are skillfully handled by a dedicated attorney who not only understands their legal needs, but has their best interests in mind. I know what it means to work hard for the most important things in your life. I feel quite privileged to use my passion for and knowledge of the law to help local Iowans navigate the confusing, emotionally charged, and often-adversarial legal system to get the justice they want and deserve.

Board Certified in Marital and Family Law. Jennifer C. Frank is a Board Certified Marital and Family Law attorney. Board certified lawyers have met The Florida Bar’s highest standards for specialized knowledge, skills, and proficiency within their area of expertise. The experience and competency of Certified lawyers have been rigorously evaluated, and they are the only Florida lawyers allowed to refer to themselves as “specialists” or “experts” in their particular field. Only approximately 6% of licensed attorneys are Board Certified by The Florida Bar. Jennifer has therefore distinguished herself with the Florida Bar and within her legal community as a specialist and expert in her practice area of Family and Marital Law.. Frank Family Law Practice Philosophy. Jennifer has been handling family law matters since 1994 and, while she is a fully seasoned trial litigator, Jennifer is committed to exhausting all other creative avenues and options before resorting to the use of our unpredictable Court system to solve her client's problems. Jennifer’s practice style is both compassionate and practical. Her family law clients appreciate her honesty and her ability to provide realistic goals while protecting their interests. Jennifer understands that it never makes sense for families to spend all of their hard-earned income and assets on lawyers and litigation. She is therefore devoted to finding creative settlement solutions which minimize damage to the family, to their finances, to their businesses, and which work towards positive co-parenting relationships in the future. Jennifer works hard to resolve cases in a civilized and dignified manner while always working to keep the financial and emotional well-being of the family as a whole at the forefront.. Marital and Family Law Practice Areas. The Frank Family Law Practice is located in Altamonte Springs, Florida, near Orlando and Winter Park and Jennifer is its founder and president. Frank Family Law Practice represents clients throughout Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake and Volusia Counties. The practice is focused entirely on all aspects of Marital and Family Law including, but not limited to, divorce, timesharing (child custody and visitation), alimony, the division of marital wealth and assets (including cases requiring business valuations and other complex asset analysis), child support, enforcement of child support, alimony and equitable distribution, modifications of child support, alimony, and other post-judgment cases, domestic violence injunctions, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and paternity cases.. Collaborative Law. Jennifer is specially trained and has extensive experience in successfully handling cases within the Collaborative Law model. This dispute resolution model teams two Lawyers (each representing one spouse) with two highly trained neutral professionals (a Mental Health Neutral and a Financial Neutral). The roles of the neutrals are absolutely essential and central to the process. Both parties sign an agreement in advance committing themselves to the Collaborative process and agreeing, as a form of “insurance,” that they must end their attorney’s representation and find new counsel if the Collaborative process were to break down and move to litigation. This team then works intensely outside of the court system through a series of carefully planned and well-organized meetings to assist the spouses in finding their best possible resolution to their divorce or post-divorce matter. While these cases are not always easy, this process allows the spouses to work through some of their pain and frustrations within the safety of the team while still working creatively and cooperatively to solve the practical and legal problems created by the divorce. Often these Collaborative cases result in the spouses ending their marriage, after a lot of hard work, while maintaining a tone of respect, dignity, and civility with one another that is difficult to achieve in a typical litigation case.. Certified Family Law Mediator. Jennifer is a State of Florida Certified Family Law Mediator. As a mediator, she works hard to limit positional and intractable bargaining behaviors that prevent settlement. Instead, she works with parties and their lawyers to have the often difficult face-to-face conversations necessary to reach a creative resolution while in a safe, comfortable, non-threatening and effective mediation environment. Jennifer explores and develops creative and workable solutions and is committed to providing parties and their attorneys the necessary time and space needed to ensure that all aspects of their Agreement are fully understood before signing.. Adoption & Surrogacy – Family Building Services. Frank Family Law Practice provides services to help clients grow their families. This can include adoption as well as contracts for surrogacy and third-party egg or sperm donation. Frank Family Law practice is dedicated to providing knowledgeable and compassionate adoption and fertility advice so that clients can make decisions about growing their families that are right for them. For birth mothers, Jennifer and her firm offers compassion, experience and skill that can help them find the right family and to arrange a placement that honors their wishes for the future. These legal services extend to same-sex couples seeking to begin or expand their families.. Professional & Community Involvement. Jennifer is a member of the Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida and the League of Women Voters, Orlando Chapter. In 2007 she served as chair of the Florida Bar Association Grievance Committee. She also worked on the executive committee of the Orange County Bar Association, Family Law Section from 1999 to 2005, serving as the chair and co-chair from 2003 to 2005..
