As an undergraduate student Ms. Jemmott became involved in civil and human rights anti-apartheid advocacy initiatives. Upon Graduation, she staffed a National Council of Churches project, "Stand for Truth Until South Africa is Free" - National Lobby Day for Comprehensive Sanctions, 1989 June 16 and on the South African Women's Day Committee. She went on to participate in People to People diplomacy initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean with emphasis on the impact of Structural Adjustment Policies on the lives of women, was involved in organizing local celebrations of International Women's Day and served on the Board of the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Ms. Jemmott interned with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, where she completed the Annual Country Report for Suriname.
