Do I need to respond to email from previous employer?

employment attorney Tennessee Aug 27, 2026
Location: Tennessee My previous employer sent me an email that includes but is not limited to the following: "We are seeing and hearing some evidence of your intention to compete with ####, so I want to be clear where we stand." "Accordingly, please ensure that all ##### documents, data, work product, customer and prospect information, pricing information, business processes and methodologies, internal communications, files, credentials, and other non-public ##### information in your possessions or control are returned to #####. To the extent copies of these materials or ###### Confidential Information remain on any personal devices, accounts, cloud storage, email, or other systems under your control, please delete them. Please confirm in writing when this has been completed." "We are preserving relevant company records and will continue to actively protect ##### confidential information and business interests. If we become aware of any unauthorized retention, use, or disclosure of #### Confidential Information, or other conduct that unlawfully harms ####, we will not hesitate to engage counsel and pursue all remedies available under the Agreement and applicable law, including, where appropriate, injunctive and equitable relief, recovery of costs, attorneys’ fees, and damages to the fullest extent of the law. "Please confirm receipt and your compliance with the return and deletion requests above." I did not sign a non-compete. I did sign an NDA and have no intent to store or share any confidential information belonging to my previous employer or their customers. This seems like they are just trying to scare me. Is there any legal reason for me to respond to this?
