Location: Florida TLDR: Schizo mom dropped her kids with me. I dont have custody and need help/resources for them due to severe neglect, however I don't want my brother being taken away. I'm in a weird situation. My mom dropped her kids off me because she's homeless. She has schizophrenia and has neglected my siblings severely for the past few years. I now have them with me, and have for months but I have no legal proof they're supposed to be with me. With school starting, my mom decided she'd set them up for homeschooling. I planned on doing their schooling but I've found out that they're both severely behind. My mom is refusing to help me put them in public school and has delayed giving me proof that they're supposed to be in my custody and proof of their insurance to take them to the doctors. On top of that she's living in Gainesville while im in Tampa. It's me, my partner, and the two kids in a 1 bedroom apartment. I'm struggling mentally due to the kids both being severely behind, along with being pregnant, and having my own mental health struggles. My 8 year old sister also has learning and behavioral issues. She's tried multiple times to drown her brother and talks about wanting me dead. She very clearly needs to see a psychologist and i cant handle it. Location: Florida I am a US citizen preparing to file a Form I-130 for my paternal half-brother who lives in Brazil (F4 Preference Category). We share the same biological father but have different mothers. My half-brother was born out of wedlock in 1974, and his birth certificate lists our father. He was 14 years old when the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 was enacted, which completely abolished the legal distinction between children born in or out of wedlock (effectively legitimating all underage children recognized by their fathers under local law). The I-130 instructions state that for children born out of wedlock, we must "submit evidence that the child was legitimated under the law of the child’s residence or domicile." My question is: Do I need to physically attach/upload the text of the Brazilian law/Constitution explaining this 1988 transition to the I-130 petition? Or is submitting his Full-Form Birth Certificate (Certidão de Nascimento de Inteiro Teor) showing he was registered by our father during his childhood, along with a certified English translation, enough for USCIS? I’m trying to figure out what my immigration options are and would really appreciate some advice. I’m from Ukraine and I’ve been in the U.S. for about 10 years. I came here with my parents on a tourist visa when I was under 18, and we applied for asylum after we arrived. I’m still under my parents’ asylum case. I was also married to a U.S. citizen, but we never filed for a green card because we ended up getting divorced. I’ve been reading about VAWA, but I’m honestly scared to go that route. My ex never physically hurt me, but there was a lot of emotional and psychological abuse during the marriage. I’m also worried that if I file anything against him, he’ll somehow find out and try to get back at me. Are there any other ways I could get a green card in my situation? Has anyone been through something similar or know what my options might be? I’m just trying to understand what direction I should be looking in. Location: Florida
