Matt earned his Juris Doctor from Salmon P. Chase College of Law where he attended the evening division as an adult professional. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Thomas More College. Matt completed a two-year legal apprenticeship prior to licensure under the direct guidance of John R. Kummer, longtime Northern Kentucky attorney and former Kenton County Deputy Master Commissioner.. Prior to attending law school, Matt worked for a private group of international consumer brands and overseas manufacturing partners. In this role, he engaged in product and brand development strategies for the United States retail market. Matt worked alongside the major retail corporate offices of home centers, mass merchants, and wholesale clubs. Matt quickly became well-versed in consumer products compliance standards issued by Underwriters Laboratory (UL), U.S. Department of Energy, and state-level consumer product laws, primarily in California.. Matt’s extensive experience in brand development and international business operations gives him the ability to adapt to his various clients’ needs. What led Matt to become a lawyer was part of a career evolution that gave him 20+ years of valuable and practical experience before he ever stepped foot inside a law school. Matt decided to pursue a career in law so that he could better engage in work that serves a meaningful purpose. Matt discovered that he wanted to invest his time in helping those in his local community and retire his frequent flyer status for a life spent closer to home.. Matt is married to his amazing wife, Erika, of over 15 years and together they have a teenage son and daughter. Matt grew up Bowling Green, Kentucky. He attended college at Miami University on a partial athletic scholarship. During his Junior year at Miami, Matt took a Business Law course that was taught by a local attorney. It was by far the most interesting course that Matt took in college and laid the foundation for his eventual career in the law. After graduating from Miami with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Political Science, Matt attended the University of Kentucky College of Law. During his third year of law school, Matt worked in the College of Law Legal Clinic, where he handled a number of pro bono cases for clients that couldn’t afford to pay a lawyer. Much of the work involved litigation of civil disputes and piqued his interest in civil litigation and trial work.. Matt obtained his law degree in 2005 and returned to Bowling Green to begin practicing law at a well-respected local firm. During his eight years at that firm, Matt handled a wide variety of cases, ranging from commercial litigation to insurance defense to representing plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death claims. Matt gravitated toward representing individuals that were harmed or killed through no fault of their own. He loved helping those clients and found it much more rewarding than the other work he had done.. In 2013, Matt joined his friend and law partner Brian Lowder to found Lowder & McGill, PLLC. Their firm was founded on the principle of zealous and aggressive representation of their client’s interest, whether it be a small business owner involved in a commercial dispute, an individual that has been seriously injured in a crash or a family that has lost a loved one due to someone’s negligence. Matt enjoys the challenge of obtaining justice for these clients, whether it be in reaching a fair settlement or taking his client’s case to trial.. Matt feels that it is his responsibility to give back to the community whenever possible. He is a former member of several civic organizations, has served as a board member for several charitable organizations and has contributed to and helped organize many fundraisers for these organizations. Matt currently serves as a board member and past President for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of South Central KY, an advocacy group that seeks to protect abused and neglected children..
