I am a Christian, the father of two incredible children, and a blessed son of two magnificent parents.. I am living proof that expereince matters a great deal. More importantly, successful experience matters most. Actual jury trial and courtroom experience coupled with a great deal of success is the formula for an awesome attorney. I have had well over 150 jury trials in both criminal and civil matters and I still maintian a 94.8% success rate. As a former prosecutor, I know that my expereince helps my clients, because it demands respect from my adversaries. I vow to never take that for granted.. I have a passion for the practice of law and my own personal situations (i.e. divorce and custody battle) have helped me to become quite accomplished at not only explaining the laws to my clients, but also to relay to them the many perhaps unspoken, and sometimes unforeseen, consequences that years of experience have revealed to me. For example, prior to my divorce, I could competently tell people what the normal proceudres and eventual outcomes would be would be for their divorce/custody cases. After my divorce, I provide much more in depth analysis and explanations to help prepare them for the inevitable changes that are about to take place in their lives. Some of these these changes are welcomed and others are unwelcomed. From the emotional and mental anguish, to the strain on friends and families, and to the financial pitfalls that can be avoided, I have personal experience to add to and to aid my twenty-three years of practicing law.. In my spare time, I like to practice martial arts and play piano. However, with two very active and energetic young kids, I have very little "spare" time.

Firm: Landrum & Shouse, LLP
220 West Main Street , Louisville , Kentucky 40202
Practice Areas: Business , Civil , Professional Malpractice, White Collar Crime, White Collar Crime, White Collar Crime, White Collar Crime
Kent Westberry is a Senior Partner at Landrum & Shouse LLP, with over 31 years of criminal and civil litigation experience in federal and state courts. Kent has defended some of the largest and most highly publicized criminal prosecutions in Kentucky. However, despite the nature of the cases handled by Kent and Landrum & Shouse, it is our belief that the most successful criminal and civil defenses should not be high profile. Attorneys are most effective in the investigative stage, before an indictment has been returned and in the headlines. Kent also practices in the areas of commercial litigation, personal injury (defendant) and the representation of attorneys in Bar discipline proceedings.. Kent has been listed in the White Collar Crime, Commercial Litigation and Personal Injury Defense sections for publications such as Best Lawyers in America and Kentucky Super Lawyers Business Edition. He has, for many years, maintained an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He served as a federal prosecutor and as President of the Kentucky Bar Association in 2004-2005.. In 2005 and thereafter, Kent served as lead counsel for former Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher in the Merit System investigation which resulted in a dismissal of all charges brought against this former Governor. Kent has recently served as counsel to a former Governor from the Northeast with regard to a Federal Grand Jury Investigation involving a now defunct business college in Kentucky. This investigation was closed without criminal charges being brought. Over the past several years, Kent has represented clients in criminal investigations and trials on behalf of the coal industry. In particular, Kent has been involved in the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster where an investigation was conducted by the Mining Safety and Health Administration ("MSHA") and the United States Attorney's Office in Utah. In the past, Kent was involved in representing executives in the Pyro Mine disaster where no charges were brought against his client. More recently, Kent obtained an acquittal for a coal mining executive in United States v. B&D Mining in federal court in Abington, Virginia. Kent has also obtained a significant judgment of acquittal for felony counts, post verdict, in United States v. KenAmerican Resources, et al. for his client who was a mine superintendent. The court ultimately sentenced this client as well as others to probation after a month long jury trial. Kent recently obtained an acquittal for an environmental compliance officer in Ohio v. United Wastewater.. Kent and his firm have handled virtually all types of White Collar matters. Kent has represented clients in matters involving state and federal tax violations, mail and wire fraud, healthcare fraud false statements, RICO, government contract fraud, environmental crime, money laundering, securities and insurance fraud. Kent has represented state court judges, attorneys, physicians, and other professionals in criminal investigations. Kent frequently advises businesses, municipalities and individuals in responding to requests for documents and records from grand jury subpoenas. Early in his career, Kent obtained an acquittal for an accountant in a criminal tax prosecution, United States v. Schultz. Other recent examples of successful representation involve convincing the United States Attorney's Office not to seek an indictment involving a former healthcare executive in a highly publicized investigation in Louisville. Kent is currently representing businesses regarding alleged tobacco excise tax violations in investigations throughout the Southeastern United States.. More recently, Kent has been involved in defending elected and appointed officials in voter fraud cases brought in federal court. These prosecutions have involved substantial post trial briefing as a result of the recent Supreme Court decision in Skilling as well as alleged Brady/Giglio violations resulting from the government's failure to produce exculpatory and/or impeachment material in advance of trial.. Kent served with distinction as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky from 1981-1987. Kent has also served as a Special Justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court and as Chairman of the Civil Justice Reform Act for the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. He is a currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Public Defenders Corporation. Kent is a Life Member of the U.S. Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Kent has served in 2011 as Chairman of the United States District Court Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel, United States District Court, Western District of Kentucky – Louisville Division. He currently serves as Chairman of the Kentucky Bar Association Mentoring Committee.

Born in Lexington, Ky and raised just north in Georgetown, Ky, I am a country girl who always wanted to be in a big city. This led me to Northern Kentucky University for my undergraduate degree in Political Science with a minor in Pre-Law. Actively involved at NKU, I continued there to earn my law degree. While at Chase College of Law I was selected to be on the Trial Advocacy Team where I spent two years preparing for and putting on mock trials. This experience was invaluable to me and provided me the skill and drive necessary to win cases in court. After law school I spent years at a medium-sized firm furthering my skills and knowledge. In October of 2022 I made the decision to go out on my own and open up my own law firm.. Although I have practiced in many areas, I chose to focus my work on mainly family and criminal law, in addition to providing Wills and other estate planning documents. I chose to focus in these areas because my drive to become an attorney has always stemmed from empowering people. To me, empowerment means not only personal empowerment, but using my skills, devoting my career to, and gaining the knowledge and ability to help others empower themselves. In criminal law, per our constitution, a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, however that is often forgotten. In family law, false accusations are consistently made by a party trying to gain an advantage. In both instances, you need an attorney that keeps the truth at the forefront and ensures that the Judge or Jury hear that truth. It takes a strong and determined attorney to fight against false accusations. I became an attorney to protect people from harm whether that is physical, mental, and emotional harm or harmful false allegations. I truly love practicing law. It is what I was built for - to empower clients in their legal battles.
