Hello all, thank you for any assistance. I am a disabled college STEM student (documented Autism, chronic pain, major depression, anxiety, other) attending a private college in Location: North Carolina, on a scholarship. I am supposed to graduate this semester, but have had bad health issues flaring up that my doctors are still trying to figure out, including constant vomiting for the past year that has caused severe dental damage. I obtained a written accommodation letter from my doctor noting some of these issues and providing accommodations--I have reached out to disability services over the past few weeks, attempting to obtain an updated disability accommodations letter (I do have past accommodations/documentation in place) with these new factors, and have received no correspondence. A professor/advisor offered me a 1-credit-hour study course, which would ease my educational burden and make graduating more possible, but now the dean of my department is refusing and insisting that I instead take on a TA position and meet far more requirements than I am currently able. There is also a professor at the college who regularly refuses to take students' medical or excused absences, and includes in their syllabus that it is at the professor's discretion, so I am concerned about missing classes due to documented symptoms and being unable to graduate. I am deeply overwhelmed. My primary question: does any of this warrant grounds to threaten a discrimination lawsuit, or is this not possible/extreme enough due to being a private institution? Location: North Carolina, USA My apartment complex was taken over by a new company back in March. The old owners sent out emails fairly regularly on what to expect in recent weeks, events, and most importantly, document requests. Since March, I have heard nothing from this new company. My lease for the apartment I’ve been at for 2 years expired July 5th. I didn’t get an email about renewal until July 15th, 10 days after my lease had already expired. I got a generic email stating my lease expired and I’m now on a month to month rent that’s charging me an extra $450/mo. They stated I have to submit some pay stubs and forms and I can renew. I did this within 48 hours and heard nothing. I’ve gone into my leasing office several times to fix this, they have all of the documentation needed for lease renewal, yet they just won’t send me a new lease. I’ve talked to 3 different people at the office, all stating I need to talk to the property manager (who’s either always in meetings or out in another office and they won’t let me talk to her directly whenever I ask), so I’m not sure what to do. I’ve gone in about 6 times now, sent 2 emails, and several phone calls. I’ve been told they won’t charge me the additional month-to-month rent, just my usual fee until it’s all sorted. This is regarding tenancy rights in North Carolina / early lease termination / delivery of premise Our lease in Raleigh North Carolina began on August 1. WE relocated from another state on the 13th, and arrived at the house late on the 14th. Upon entry of the home the house was left filthy from previous tenants, and lack of landlord cleaning. Dead roaches in all bedrooms / live roaches. Mold in the bathroom on window sill, and on the ceiling along with pealing / failing paint around moldy areas. Dirt and buildup on all crown molding / trim from years of neglect / cleaning from previous tenants. Human and animal hair throughout the house, and toilet left in unsanitary conditions around exterior of toilet and flooring. The windows do not properly seal / close throughout the home as they are very old windows. The ac receivers that blow forced air into the home are "ajar" and not connected to their brackets and just sitting to the side n different locations of the home. The home reeks of cigarettes and animals. The flooring is 3 layers of linoleum flooring and is peeling up across the kitchen and dining areas.
