The problem is that I took photos and videos of the apartment on the day I moved out, and the things they listed were already there when I moved in. I also have the original move-in inspection report, although I’m not sure if it specifically mentions every issue. I contacted the landlord asking them to explain the charges, but they haven’t provided any photos or other evidence. What would be the best way to handle this? Hello! Location: Texas I’m having issues with my apartment complex not fixing my inadequate AC unit. I am in Texas, so it is very HOT here. My thermostat says 75-80 throughout the day, when I have it set at 68-70 at times. We got maintenance to give us a window unit, but the property managers will not have the AC unit fixed! It does not effectively or efficiently cool my apartment. Additionally, they said they would order a part (after not even inspecting it), and then apparently they said they aren’t doing that anymore!! Today, they notified me that they were in my apartment and cleaned the external coils as well as adding Freon coolant (but the AC unit did not look wet or tampered with). The upstairs in my place reaches 95-100°F. But the managers say only the thermostat numbers matter… they haven’t even attempted to internally fix it because they just say that it works fine. They said we should purchase a window unit ourselves. I don’t think this is right considering they can’t provide comfortable conditions. I also have screenshots and I record evidence of temperatures and things they say. Can I do anything to legally break the lease?

The new management claims I must pay a month-to-month rent amount, but I haven't received any written details about this rate, which differs from my original lease agreement that does indicate converting to a month-to-month basis upon failure to promptly provide notice to vacate, but does not specify an amount. My interactions with the new management have only been verbal, and they've confirmed I owe $2649 (because I will submitting a notice to vacate upon the start of the month-to-month so will only be paying the minimum required $2649 one-month amount). How should I effectively communicate in writing with the management to verify the correct payment amount, ensure payment of only what is legitimately owed, and terminate my lease appropriately? Location: Denton, TX Hello! I just had an unpleasant situation with my move-in and I wanted to get some legal clarification. I was moving into a place today in the state of Texas whose lease began at the start of this month, as I didn't move to the city in question until today. I mistakenly forgot to arrange a meeting time with the landlord to pick up the keys until my flight landed, which I admit was completely my fault, and now I'm waiting to meet with him a few hours from now. The thing is, the roommate who answered my initial knock at the door refused me entry (in 99 degree heat), even after I offered to show him our landlord's contact on my phone, our other roommate's contact on my phone, and the signed lease on my computer + my ID. Now, I totally understand his weariness at a stranger showing up at the door, but I just wanted to confirm whether or not he actually had a legal right to do this, given that I would assume my access is guaranteed by the lease rather than the keys. Location: Texas I'll get straight to the point about the context: I completely neglected to submit 60 days' notice to vacate to my apartment complex (I have now, but a week before the end of my lease). Yes, it was stupid, and completely on me. I am not asking to avoid the contractual/financial ramifications of that—that would be irresponsible besides illegal—only for advice on how to avoid getting penalized more than what is legally/contractually dictated. The situation is as follows: Lease agreement stipulates that I needed to have submitted my notice to vacate at the latest on 6/16 (60 days before end of term). I only submitted it on 8/8. Originally, the leasing office claimed that, due to this, I will need to, in addition to the full month of August's rent at monthly rate $X (which I already paid on 8/1; rather than prorated to just be 8/1 to 8/16), pay the full month of September plus a prorated 8 days of October (i.e., to 10/8), both at an elevated month-to-month rate $Y. However, I read my lease agreement and on the Term section, it states the following verbatim: Term. Subject to the provisions of this Lease, the initial term of this Lease shall commence on the Start Date and end on the End Date.
