I was born and raised in Virginia. I attended college and law school in Virginia, and have enjoyed building a legal career and practicing law in courts across the state, from Roanoke to Virginia Beach, and from Richmond to Fairfax to Winchester.. I enjoy nearly every facet of the law, but I have a particular focus on the ethics of the practice of law, as well as the complexities of Virginia civil procedure. Having had the opportunity while I was in law school to study and to work with W. Hamilton Bryson, author of the definitive treatise on Virginia Civil Procedure and truly one of the kindest and most intelligent men I have ever met, I gained an appreciation for the framework of our procedural rules.. I am fascinated not only by the rules themselves, but by the history behind the rules. Virginia's legal community always keeps an eye on its rich legal tradition and its prominence in shaping American legal history. From the strict rules governing some of the first British settlements on our continent, to the pivotal role of Virginia's legal elite in the founding of our nation, to the evolution of the law in Virginia to meet the challenges of the new millennium, our Commonwealth has inspired, and been inspired by, attorneys. I am proud to be a part of that long and storied tradition.

TED BRUNS has been engaged in the practice of law since 1995 and joined the firm as a partner in 2001. Thomas C. Carter is a near lifelong northern Virginian. He graduated from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1978 and was appointed to a position as a law clerk to the Circuit Court Judges of Fairfax County.. In 1980, he was sworn in as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Alexandria. During his five years in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, he tried many criminal and traffic cases, both felonies and misdemeanors, jury and non-jury trials. Since 1985, he has been in private practice concentrating on criminal and traffic matters.. Mr. Carter has lectured extensively on criminal and traffic defense. Recently, he has been a guest speaker at Alexandria and Fairfax Bar Association Continuing Legal Education seminars. He is always willing to help lawyers less familiar with northern Virginia state and federal practice.. Since 1978, attorney Thomas C. Carter has been helping the people of Virginia resolve their criminal and traffic offenses in both state and federal courts. Recently, Mr. Carter was selected to the 2017 List of Virginia SuperLawyers.
