I began my career as a family law practitioner 20 years ago as an intern and then as a newly-minted associate when I graduated, making partner after just five years. Since that time, I have represented clients in a full range of “cradle to grave” family law matters, particularly complex and high net-worth divorce cases, including property and business valuation, property division, spousal maintenance, parenting plans and custody arrangements. I also represent clients in private independent adoptions and step-parent adoptions.. I work closely with each client to understand their goals and objectives in order to provide the highest level of support and advocacy. I have been recognized as a Rising Star and a Super Lawyer in the area of family law by Washington Law & Politics magazine. I am a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) which is a nationally recognized group of family law attorneys.

If you're looking for an attorney, it means something is breaking in your life. My first job is to stop the damage and keep things from getting worse. These kinds of situations bring a tremendous amount of stress, and no one is at their best when dealing with it. There are always options in cases. I'll give you the information you need to choose among them. Whether you are dealing with a custody dispute or dividing property in a divorce, I will help you put your life back on track.. Scott Kinshella is a Washington State attorney practicing in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick, Richland, Pasco and the surrounding area). Scott Ashby

Firm: Pacific Northwest Family Law PLLC
1359 Columbia Park Trail , Richland , Washington 99352
Practice Areas: Family
Scott Ashby grew up on a farm in Quincy, Washington and has always valued his familial relationships.  Growing up, he enjoyed spending time with his family, growing his relationships and loved competition. He found an outlet for that in sports.  He was never a great athlete, but for everyone who knows him, he loves to win—and hates to lose!  As he grew older, his competitive nature extended to school and then his career.. After graduating from Central Washington University and then Cornell Law School, He was recruited by big law firms to work for big businesses.  For 17 years he worked in a firm with more than 1,500 attorneys in offices around the world.  He was a high-stakes litigator, and he sued big businesses on behalf of other big businesses so that shareholders could have more profit.  He was exceptional at it.  But he felt more and more dissatisfied because he wasn’t really helping people.  Because of that, he left a comfortable position at the very large firm and eventually opened his own firm so that he could help people.. Family has always been important to him, so he focused on helping families.  He has been married for almost 36 years and has six children and twelve grandchildren.  When he opened his own firm, he started helping people who were going through the toughest times in their lives—divorce and child custody battles--and he developed an approach that was different than most attorneys.  In his firm he dedicated himself to look to his clients’ future, not just their past.. The skills he developed as a high-stakes business litigator he adapted to his family law strategies.  With his forward-looking approach, divorce, separation or child custody proceedings can be the beginning of a brighter, more fulfilling future.  Instead of taking a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach to your family law matter like most attorneys, Ashby Law carefully considers your situation, provides options, and works with you to plan and execute a strategy to help you on your way to a better and brighter future.. Even though your family will change, Ashby Law can help conduct your divorce or custody dispute so that your family can continue, so that your child can comfortably invite both of you to his/her wedding, and so that you can be a part of your grandchildren’s lives.  By taking a healthy approach, you can continue to be a good example to your children.. Every case is different, but to Ashby Law, it is also personal.  Ashby Law can help plan and conduct your case so that your future will be better, brighter, and complete.. Reported Cases: Reynolds & Reynolds Co. v. Universal Forms, Labels & Sys., Inc., 965 F. Supp. 1392 (C.D. Cal. 1997); In re Corporate & Leisure Event Productions, Inc., 351 B.R. 724, 726 (Bankr. D. Ariz. 2006); Braspetro Oil Services Co. v. MODEC (USA) Inc., 423 F. Supp. 2d 680, 681 (S.D. Tex. 2006) aff'd sub nom. Braspetro Oil Services Co. v. Modec (USA), Inc., 240 F. App'x 612 (5th Cir. 2007); Mach 1 Air Services, Inc. v. Garcia, CV-08-0911-PHX-FJM, 2008 WL 3200777 (D. Ariz. Aug. 6, 2008); Roosevelt Irr. Dist. v. Salt River Project Agr. Imp. & Power Dist., 810 F. Supp. 2d 929, 936 (D. Ariz. 2011) Cobiz Bank v. Grace Capital, L.L.C., 1 CA-CV 10-0826, 2012 WL 587031 (Ariz. Ct. App. Feb. 23, 2012)

I came to the family law arena reluctantly.  When I left law school 22 years ago, I swore I would never, ever, ever, ever do another dissolution.  Here, I am years later in a practice that deals with familys in every possible way.  In many ways, I am the only lawyer a person will have contact with in their lives.  I divorce them, do their pre-nuptial agreements, their annulments, their adoptions, their wills, thier probates.. At times it is a hard relationship.  I end up knowing more about people then anyone but then after lots of hard work together, I am satisfied in knowing I did the best I could to help them along to a new phase of life.. I feel it is important to take the long view.  Clients spend maybe a couple of years with their attorney but will be parents of the children forever.  It is important to handle matters in such a way as to protect the relationship so the children don't end up the real victims.

Sara Wahl

Firm: Sara K. Wahl, Attorney At Law, PLLC
100 W. Harrison St. , Seattle , Washington 98119
Practice Areas: Family
A divorce is  one of the most difficult experiences a person may go through in their lifetime, much like a death.  Most people want to go through this transition privately and without creating more conflict. I want to help families navigate their divorce in a respectful and healthy way.  It is possible to minimize, if not eliminate, the impact a divorce has on one's children and Collaborative Law encourages this.  Preserving the co-parent relationships moving forward for the benefit of one's children is essential.  Even if one does not have children, Collaborative Law helps the healing process begin in a mutually respectful manner.. Further, most people would like to make their own decisions in their divorce as they know what is going to work best for their own family; Collaborative divorce supports this.. Even if Collaborative Law is not the perfect fit for your divorce or family law case, there are many other options rather than traditional litigation. I encourage people to explore all the alternatives to litigation with an experienced attorney and pick something that fits their individual family.. I do not do any litigation cases any longer, but usually the cases do not need to end up in litigation if there are skilled conflict resolution attorneys working on the case.
