Yugo first came to the U.S. in 1983 as a high school exchange student. After graduating from high school in Florida, he went on to Boston University where he majored in Political Science and Philosophy. After graduating, he went on to Clairemont Graduate University where he studied International Affiairs and earned his Master's Degree in 1993. He then went on to Loyola Marymount Law School, where he earned his law degree in 1997, and passed the California Bar Exam in 1998. During his graduate school years, he worked for the immigration department of a large law firm where he performed various research and translation, and went on to work as a law clerk for two years at an immigration law office during his law school years. After passing the bar, Yugo worked as an attorney at the Mukai Law Office, where he was mainly responsible for the visa applications for Japanese companies. During that time, he presented at various seminars and published many articles in law publications. He worked at the Tachikawa, Yasui, Nishizawa Law Office for a couple of years before starting his own law office in March 2001.
