N.Y. ABP Law § 601

§ 601. Publication of list of abandoned property. 1. On or before the\nfirst day of February in each year, such county treasurer or the\ncommissioner of finance of the city of New York shall cause to be\npublished a notice entitled: "NOTICE OF NAMES OF PERSONS APPEARING AS\nOWNERS OF CERTAIN UNCLAIMED PROPERTY HELD BY (title of officer)."\n 2. Such notice shall be published once in two newspapers published in\nthe county where such abandoned property is held, except that if such\nabandoned property is held by the commissioner of finance of the city of\nNew York it shall be published once in two newspapers published daily in\nthe city of New York, not more than one of which shall be published in\nany one county. If there is only one newspaper published in any such\ncounty, such notice shall be published in such newspaper, or, if there\nare no newspapers published in such county, then in a newspaper\npublished in an adjacent county. Such publication shall be in a\nnewspaper printed in the English language and any other newspaper that\nwill substantially serve to inform the public of such abandoned\nproperty. The comptroller shall promulgate rules to determine when it is\nappropriate to designate an additional publication.\n 3. Such notice shall be classified as the state comptroller shall\nprescribe and shall set forth:\n (a) the names and last-known addresses, in alphabetical order, of all\npersons appearing to be entitled to any such abandoned property, as of\nthe first day of January next preceding, amounting to fifty dollars or\nmore, except the names of persons appearing to be the owners of\nabandoned property which since such date has ceased to be abandoned.\nWith the consent of the state comptroller, the name and last known\naddress of any person may be omitted from such notice where special\ncircumstances make it desirable that such information be withheld;\n (b) such other information as the state comptroller may require; and\n (c) a statement\n (i) that a list of the names contained in such notice is on file and\nopen to public inspection at the office of such officer;\n (ii) that such unclaimed moneys or other property will be paid or\ndelivered by him on or before the thirty-first day of March to persons\nestablishing to his satisfaction their right to receive the same; and\n (iii) that in the succeeding month of April, and on or before the\ntenth day thereof, such unclaimed moneys or other property still\nremaining will be paid or delivered to the state comptroller and that he\nshall thereupon cease to be liable therefor.\n 4. Such county treasurer or commissioner of finance of the city of New\nYork shall file with the state comptroller on or before the tenth day of\nFebruary in each year proof by affidavit of such publication.\n
