N.Y. EXC Law § 625-B

§ 625-b. Standardized victim notification and verification procedures\nfor police officers. 1. The commissioner of the division of criminal\njustice services in cooperation with the office shall develop and\nimplement a standardized procedure to be used by police officers, county\nsheriffs' departments and state police officers whereby victims of crime\nare notified about the rights of crime victims and the existence of\nprograms designed to assist crime victims.\n 2. In establishing a victims assistance notification procedure,\nconsideration shall be given to (a) developing a uniform method of\ninforming victims of crime of their rights and services available, (b)\nincluding notification as part of a routine task performed in the course\nof law enforcement duties, and (c) documenting a victim's receipt of\nsuch notice.\n 3. All state or municipal printed forms for a police primary\ninvestigation report shall include a space to indicate that the victim\ndid or did not receive information on victim's rights, office of victim\nservices assistance and relevant local assistance pursuant to\nsubdivision one of section six hundred twenty-five-a of this article.\n 4. In addition, the commissioner of the division of criminal justice\nservices, in cooperation with the office, shall develop and implement a\nstandardized procedure to be used by police officers, county sheriffs'\ndepartments and state police officers whereby family members and\ndependents who may be eligible to receive awards under this article are\nnotified about the existence of such awards and the existence of any\nother relevant services or programs.\n
