Technological viability of microstamping-enabled firearms

* § 837-w. Technological viability of microstamping-enabled firearms.\n1. As used in this section, the terms "microstamping-enabled pistols"\nand "microstamping components" shall have the same meaning as defined in\narticle two hundred sixty-five of the penal law.\n 2. The division or a designee shall within one hundred eighty days of\nthe effective date of this section:\n (a) engage in and complete an investigation to certify the\ntechnological viability of microstamping-enabled pistols. This\ninvestigation shall include live-fire testing evidence; and\n (b) certify or decline to certify that microstamping-enabled pistols\nare technologically viable.\n 3. Following a certification by the division or a designee that\nmicrostamping-enabled pistols are technologically viable, the division\nshall:\n (a) within three hundred sixty-five days from the date of\ncertification of the viability of such technology by division or a\ndesignee pursuant to subdivision one of this section, establish\nperformance standards, qualifying criteria and testing protocols\napplicable to the examination and verification of microstamping-enabled\npistols and microstamping components;\n (b) within two years from the date of certification of the viability\nof such technology by division or a designee pursuant to subdivision one\nof this section, establish and implement verification processes for\nmicrostamping-enabled pistols and microstamping components;\n (c) within two years from the date of certification of the viability\nof such technology by division or a designee pursuant to subdivision one\nof this section, establish processes and standards for the training and\nlicensure of persons, associations, partnerships, corporations, or other\nentities so that such may engage in the business of servicing\nsemi-automatic pistols and their components to ensure compliance with\nthe requirements of article two hundred sixty-five of the penal law; and\n (d) within two years from the date of certification of the viability\nof such technology by division or a designee pursuant to subdivision one\nof this section, designate a body to service semiautomatic pistols and\ntheir components to ensure compliance with the requirements of article\ntwo hundred sixty-five of the penal law.\n 4. The division shall promulgate any rule or regulation as may be\nnecessary to carry out the provisions of this section.\n * NB There are 2 § 837-w's\n
