N.Y. JUD Law § 77

§ 77. Courthouse of appellate division in first department. The\nbuilding erected under chapter one hundred ninety-six of the laws of\neighteen hundred ninety-seven is hereby constituted the courthouse of\nthe appellate division of the supreme court in the first department, and\nshall be under the control and supervision of the justices thereof.\nSuch justices are hereby authorized to appoint a custodian of such\nbuilding, who shall be janitor thereof, and such engineers, cleaners and\nother persons as in their opinion shall be necessary for the\npreservation, safety and care thereof. The custodian of such building\nshall, under the direction of such justices have general charge thereof\nand of the records, books and papers therein, so far as may be necessary\nto preserve and protect the same, and shall be responsible to them for\nthe preservation thereof, and shall, with the approval in writing of\nsuch justices or a majority of them, purchase the supplies necessary for\nthe maintenance of the building, and for lighting, heating and keeping\nsuch building and furniture therein in repair and with the approval of\nsuch justices make necessary contracts therefor. The engineers, cleaners\nand other persons who shall be appointed pursuant to this section, other\nthan the custodian of such building, shall be selected by such justices\nin pursuance of such rules as may from time to time be prescribed in\nregard thereto by the state civil service commission. The compensation\nto be paid to the custodian, engineer, cleaners and other persons\nappointed pursuant to this section shall be fixed by the justices of the\nappellate division of the supreme court in the first department, and\nshall, together with the amount to be paid for the supplies furnished\nfor the maintenance of such building and for lighting, heating and\nkeeping such building and the furniture therein in repair, be a county\ncharge, and shall be paid by the comptroller of the city of New York\nupon the certificate of the presiding justice thereof or a majority of\nthe justices assigned to such appellate division.\n
