§ 505.13. Operation of scow or lighter

July 2, 2010 House Bill 48 - 128th General Assembly The board of township trustees of a township which is composed in whole or in part of islands, accessible from the mainland only by watercraft, may purchase and operate, and may let for hire, a scow or lighter of sufficient tonnage to carry stone and other road building material, equipped with or without a proper crane or loading device, and for such purpose the board may levy a tax upon all the taxable property in the township, in such amount as it determines. The question of levying such tax shall be submitted to the qualified electors of the township at a general election. The trustees shall certify such resolution to the board of elections not later than four p.m. of the ninetieth day before the day of the election. Twenty days' notice thereof shall be previously given by posting in at least three public places in the township. Such notice shall state specifically the amount to be raised and the purpose thereof. If a majority of all the votes cast at such election upon the proposition is in favor thereof, the tax provided for is authorized.
