I started my career as a Maricopa County Deputy Public Defender over two decades ago.  I have always only been a criminal defense trial lawyer up until the beginning of 2021.  In January I joined the City of Phoenix Public Defender's Office as their new Assistant Director.. My devotion to the practice of criminal law has been driven by my belief that there is good in everyone.  I try to spend time looking at my client holistically and seeing past the immediate charges to try to get the bigger picture as to what is driving them to wind up afoul of our criminal justice system.. As Assistant Director I am still in the criminal defense fight, though now I'm representing our office fighting for what our attorneys need to best represent their clients.  The fact that I can reflect back over 20 years as a trial lawyer and know that I had a positive impact on hundreds of lives (even more if you count the family and friends of those I helped) fulfills me.  I'm grateful for the opportunity I had to represent so many people who trusted me with their freedom.
