James Merson is an accomplished criminal defense attorney with extensive experience representing clients throughout northern Colorado. He served as a public defender in the Greeley Regional Office of the Colorado Public Defender for 14 years, where he handled thousands of cases, litigated hundreds of motions hearings, and tried nearly 100 jury trials. His work includes everything from misdemeanors to homicides, as well as appeals in the Weld District Court, Colorado Court of Appeals, and Colorado Supreme Court. In 2010, Mr. Merson was named "Attorney of the Year" by the Colorado Public Defender for his exceptional service.. Mr. Merson has also held leadership roles, including county court supervisor and office head, where he trained and mentored new attorneys. He has taught trial advocacy at the University of Colorado School of Law and lectured on criminal defense topics at professional conferences. A member of the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, and Boulder Bar Association, Mr. Merson is also active in community outreach, volunteering for the Boulder Bar Association’s "Ask a Lawyer" program.
