She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in Spanish and she has lived and studied internationally in Alicante, Spain. She attended Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa where she received her Juris Doctorate degree. She is licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota and is admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Minnesota..
