I became a criminal defense attorney because I am intimately familiar with how precious our constitutional rights are. After my arrest years ago, I realized how close I was to being in a situation that could have negatively impacted my life forever. That situation made me realize how important it is to have someone on your side who feels strongly about protecting those rights.. In the Air Force, I put my life on the line to support and defend the Constitution during war. Today, I support and defend the Constitution in the courtroom. My legal career began by representing indigent clients. I saw first-hand how important it is for everyone to have legal representation. This is why I make every effort to make my services available to as many people as possible.
I became a criminal defense attorney to defend people’s constitutional rights. My father was an attorney in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. I admired his passion for helping others. His service as an advocate for people facing prosecution from a powerful government inspired me to become a defense attorney.. I’m fluent in Spanish. This is mainly due to the extensive time I spent living and working in Mexico. During that time, I was actively involved in the community. That helped me better understand culture and language.. I started my legal career as a public defender. During that time, I handled hundreds of cases per year. The charges ranged from misdemeanors to violent felonies. Defending the most vulnerable among us further impressed upon me just how important it is for everyone to receive zealous representation. Despite time and budget constraints, I did everything I could as a public defender to advocate for my clients. As a private attorney now, I have an even greater opportunity to maximize the potential for a good outcome in my clients’ cases.

First and foremost, I am a trial attorney. I practice in many areas of law in state, federal and municipal court. I know what is necessary to build a case and to present it to a judge or jury so that you win. Being a trial attorney is not a skill that all lawyers have. A good trial attorney is a good story teller who uses their knowledge of the evidence and the law to convey the story of your case to the judge and the jury so you win. Regardless of the area of law you need assistance in, when I accept you as a client I prepare your case from day one as if it is going to be tried to a judge or jury. Preparing a case in this mindset ensures that throughout the process of developing your case, no stone goes unturned and we examine every possible avenue of recovery. This approach also lets our opposing counsel know that we aren't making frivilous claims looking for nuisance value settlements. If we file a claim on your behalf its because I believe in it enough to invest my own time and money to help you.. I think the most important thing that every client and attorney need is a trust relationship. Clients rely on the attorney in times of high conflict and turmoil. You must pick an attorney whom you absolutely trust to not just tell you what you want to hear but also what you need to hear. A good attorney listens to thier clients and knows what the goal is from the start of a claim. Further as litigation progresses, a good attorney is able to watch for the signs of impending victory or defeat to steer the case back on path and onto the right path to vistory.. I believe our judicial system is the best in the world. I believe in the power of the jury system and the integrity of our courts. This doesn't mean that I believe the system is perfect as there is always room for improvement. However, I do believe our system is set up to be just and fair to all parties. Civil rights and protecting the rights of the most vuneralble people in our society is a passion of mine. I believe in fighting causes because its the right thing to do regardless of money. To change the world we all have to be wiling to step out onto the limbs of life and take a leap of faith.. I promise that if you choose me and Bussett Legal Group as the firm you want to take a leap of faith with, we will be by your side fighting everyday from the first day to get you what you deserve out of your lawsuit.
Fighting for YOU !
Family law is my primary practice, and within that, my forte is working with families with children and figuring out the best legal solutions for each situation. I also take cases involving paternity, parentage, and other custody-related matters. Cases are not numbers to me; they are people. So, I am constantly looking for ways to serve my individual clients.. My primary goal is to provide my clients with innovative solutions to their legal problems. My secondary goal is to provide legal services in a holistic manner. I do this by helping my clients craft an imagined reality for themselves – to see that they have a purpose that exceeds their current condition. It is important for my clients to look at their impending situation not as the end, but as the beginning of an abundant life. I understand that I am in a unique position to make a difference in your life at possibly your most difficult time.. Helping people navigate a divorce is my core motivation, and it is vital to me that I treat each of my clients with compassion. Because of the situations they are in, clients often come to me in a highly emotional state, and that agitation may last a few weeks or even the entire life of their case. I do not just sympathize with them – I can truly empathize. Years ago, I went through my own high-conflict divorce, and I had to deal with that difficult situation for a long time. I tell clients this, and I show them that I truly do understand – by listening, by being available for them, and by offering compassion.
