Eviction Advice - Wisconsin

Location: Wisconsin Facing eviction after reporting serious housing/code violations. What can I do to delay the eviction or protect myself? Hello, and thank you for reading. I’m in Wisconsin and am currently facing eviction. I’m trying to understand what options I have, particularly whether the timing of the eviction could be considered retaliatory. My roommate and I have lived in our apartment for about a year. There have been numerous problems with the property, including missing window screens, poorly weatherized doors, a refrigerator that didn’t function properly for several months, recurring marijuana odors from another unit, and ongoing garbage/pest issues. The most serious issue is the electrical system. I began experiencing electrical shocks in the bathroom from things including the faucet/drain and other surfaces including the FLOOR. I initially reported the issue to management, and they sent an electrician, but the problem was never actually resolved. More recently, I confirmed that there was an electrical issue using a multimeter AGAIN and was injured by another shock, resulting in a medical bill. Because the problem wasn’t being resolved, I contacted city code enforcement. An inspector came out and identified multiple code violations, including issues I wasn’t previously aware of. The inspection report was provided to both me and property management. Separately, I’ve been struggling financially after losing employment and fell behind on rent. An eviction case was previously filed, but my roommate and I entered into a stipulation agreement with the property management. I later regained employment and was making progress, but subsequently lost that job as well and was unable to maintain the agreement. Here’s the timeline that concerns me: Before August: I knew I was unemployed and would have difficulty paying the balance. I went to the leasing office and was verbally told that “we will not be evicted in August.” August 14: We received the paperwork from the city’s code inspection. August 18: I was shocked again in the bathroom and emailed property management about it. August 19: Property management went back to court and alleged that we had violated the stipulation and requested that the eviction proceed. August 20: I was served with a 48-hour notice along with the writ from the court. My understanding is that the sheriff only conducts evictions on Thursdays, so I have a few days before enforcement, but I’m extremely concerned about becoming homeless. I don’t want to overstate the retaliation issue. I understand that I was behind on rent and that I failed to comply with the stipulation. However, the timing is concerning to me because the eviction was pursued immediately after the city inspection documented numerous violations and immediately after I reported another electrical shock. I’m currently participating in Wisconsin’s Children First program and have child-support obligations. I’ve also been actively trying to obtain employment, but I haven’t been able to get back on my feet financially. My main questions are: Is there anything I can do immediately to ask the court to stay, delay, or otherwise prevent enforcement of the eviction while these housing/code issues are addressed? Could the timing of the eviction after contacting code enforcement and reporting the electrical hazard potentially support a retaliation defense or other legal argument? Does the city inspection report or documentation of the electrical injury affect my options? What should I be doing right now to preserve my rights and avoid homelessness? I’m primarily looking for advice on what steps I should take immediately, given that there is already a writ and a 48-hour notice. Thank you. Apologies if this reads like AI, my mind is racing so I scribbled it all down the best I could and let it be condensed to make it more concise. Absolutely feel free to ask questions in comments and Incan clarify or edit the post as needed. Thank you so much for any advice.
