Filing a petition for Custody

child custody attorney Louisiana Oct 10, 2026
Location: Louisiana I’m not too sure what steps I must take to file a petition on my own. The father of my child is refusing to get a written and notarized custodial agreement with me. Financially I’m too poor to afford a lawyer, but make too much to qualify for legal help programs. A lot of people are saying to just fill out a petition form on my own, I just don’t know if I’m supposed to fill out his proportion as well, I don’t want to get into any legal trouble by doing so. And I’m not too sure if I’m able to get the paperwork notarized without him being there. I’m just dumbfounded when it comes to getting the paperwork done and squared away. Any advice on this process would be greatly appreciated.
