The first person in my family to attend a four-year college, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian and Political Science from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. As an undergraduate, I spent a semester abroad in Almaty, Kazakhstan, studying the Russian language and culture. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Kansas in 1998.
